crankbait2009 Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Has anyone ever used an ultra lite spinning combo and artificial plastic worms? Is it even possible to fish the worm technique with that type of combo? Quote
tstraub Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I have used a bass pro ultra light spinning combo for T-rigged worms and senkos. I did it because at the time I didn't have a lot of rods and by the time I passed out rods to all my kids I was only left with 2 choices for myself. The ultra light or a baitcaster I bought used at a garage sale. I was pretty bad with a casting reel and only used it for catfish because I could tie on a heavy weight cast it once and set it down. Hook set ratio was low and line breakage was often with the ultra light but when I got it right it was a lot of fun fighting the fish. After a few hours of struggling I picked up the baitcaster and learned to use it. Quote
I.rar Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 3 inch senkos can be a bit heavy for a true ul but if the rod has any bit of backbone, weightless 4" Yamamoto cut tails are killer on a size 1 ewg hook. I used braid with a 4lb fluoroclear leader and never had a fish break off when setting the hook. A smooth drag is key when getting into the ul realm. Quote
crypt Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I have 2- 6'9" ray scott sport tackle rods with penn 420ssg setup for light fishing,4 lb. mono on one 10lb. braid on the other.braid diameter is like using 2 lb. mono. use one for small topwater, little crank baits, the one with braid for worming. don't need to set hard on em,just use sharp hooks and hang on..use em year round down in FL. best setups that I got for everyday fish in. they stay in my truck! papajoe222 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I fish Havoc Bottom Hoppers on my ultra light both nose hooked with a circle hook and T-rig style with a 1/0 light wire EWG . When using the latter, I keep my casts short to reduce the amount of stretch on the 4lb. line and set the hook more than once. I loose a fish occasionally, but that's fine by me. It works great for crappie cranks and beetle spins too. Quote
