Something1 Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Yeah, I said it.....PINK!!! It's been a while since I've logged in, but I have to say throwing a pink or bubblegum/lemon or swirled orange floating worm has always been my favorite plastic to throw in spring/early summer season. I've caught many huge bass on it from 4 on up to 8.5 lbs! There isn't anything better than watching a lunker dart out from nowhere to engulf a floating worm! My technique has always been to twitch it in a "walk-the-dog" pattern, let it float for a 2-4 seconds and give it 2 or 3 more twitches. Normally by the second set....SLAM...game on! What are your thoughts and experiences? Care to share? Quote
LooksLikeSinbad Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Smallies love pink. I haven't had much luck with lmb though. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 22, 2007 Super User Posted May 22, 2007 The few time I've thrown Bubblegum it worked The first time was back in the early 70's I won a tag team tournament throwing chartreuse & pink spinner bait. I've also had good luck with a Zoom Trick Worm rigged Wacky in their Merthiolate. Quote
Shad_Master Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 There is a rumor going around here that the Yum Dinger in the grasshopper pattern was killin 'em at one of the local lakes last year -- I picked some up, but that is about as exotic as I can go. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 22, 2007 Super User Posted May 22, 2007 This ain't Burger King, and they can't have it their way. I never use pink or any bright colored soft plastic for that matter. The only color I fish other than "dark" is white. Quote
[[J4cks0n.Shr3dd3r]] Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Ive always had luck with a Zoom Trick Bubblegum worm, rigging it wacky. Works really well. Havent got any luck on rigging it texas style, but the wacky seems to work really nice. The pink bubblegum has to be my favorite wrom of all. James Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 22, 2007 Super User Posted May 22, 2007 I also use dark colors 99% of the time but I do have same funky colors, just in case! Quote
Super User David P Posted May 22, 2007 Super User Posted May 22, 2007 I also use dark colors 99% of the time but I do have same funky colors, just in case! The only kind of bass I think you'll catch on that is Lance Bass. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 22, 2007 Super User Posted May 22, 2007 I tried throwing a "pink" worm once, but the darned bass threw it right back in my boat It's funny, but bubblegum was introduced for its visibility to the "angler", when working a floating worm or fluke. But now it's beginning to look like the best reason for using bubblegum is because it's popular with bass. And as Catt pointed out, a "merthiolate" trick worm is deadly! Roger Quote

Shad_Master Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 There is a story in the annals of my local club about a couple of guys pre-fishing before a tournament - they were catching lots of fish and some of the other club members could see them, but not close enough to see what they were throwing. As they headed in, they cleaned off the deck and found some bubble gum worms - they proceeded to scatter these around the boat before heading to the ramp. Several of the club members gathered around the boat and then headed into town to clean the shelves of bubble gum worms. Of course this is not what they were throwing, but didn't tell anybody until the next day at the weigh-in. Quote
BoroBass Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I'd read this thread before I took a short fishin trip this afternoon. I'd been getting skunked for an hour and a half in horrible winds, so and I decided what the hell, and threw on a bubblegum trick worm. Caught 4 bass in about 30-45 minutes on them and decided that was good enough and came home. The last one was probably close to 2lbs, which is actually pretty big for the pond. Quote

James Thats the exact brand/color/type I was using, but I rigged it weightless (I think this is a recognized form? pretty much a texas-rig with no weight ). Quote
slider Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 If you haven't thrown a bubble gum fluke then you don't know what your missing. Quote
FatBoy Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I've heard this bubblegum thing before but never had the guts to try it. Now you've gone and got me thinking about it again. I may have to break down and let the baitmonkey have his way again. What water conditions would you use bubblegum or merthiolate in? Surely not in clear water! Quote
booneangler Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I have had some luck with bubble gum colored Quote

Luckily my uncle gave me my bubblegum worms so the only guts required for me are taking them along when I'm fishing with someone. For me, it was mostly sunny and the water was pretty murky. Quote

Fedxpress Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Even some little girls throw pink!!!! And Now her dad!!!! Fedxpress Quote
justfishin Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I am with RW on this one. I only through natural darker colors and sometimes white. I threw a pink stick bait once and a smallie came to my boat with its fins on its hips and told me " Thtop it you thilly boy, you smell like fish you big brute "! Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 23, 2007 Super User Posted May 23, 2007 I've had the best luck with bright colors in clear water and early in the pre-spawn. Zooms Merthiolate trick worm is extremely deadly in late January through February in coves with a fast dropping shore line. Bubblegum/Pink produced in late March through April in the same coves as the Merthiolate but it also produced in the clear water shallow marshes in South Louisiana. Quote
basser89 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I've picked up a couple trick worms in pink and methiolate with the intentions of trying them this spring but haven't had a chance to yet. The maroity of the lakes here, the bass have all ready spawned. So unless I head north some, they'll stay in the bag until next year. My BEST prespawn bass the past 4 years have come on a pink and chartruese spinnerbait. The bass in my avatar came on that spinnerbait. Now that the majority of the bass I fish for are post spawn, the majority of the bass I catch are on more natural or dark colored baits. Quote
captaininsaneo Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 earlier this spring i attempted to throw a bubblegum trickworm and eventually started laughing at myself. However, when I gave up and started using a spinnerbait on a different rod i kept missing fish and used the bubblegum trick worm as a "follow up bait." After 2 or 3 fish the bubble gum started falling apart so i switched over to green pumpkin. That was when my follow up bait stopped working. Back to the bubble gum and back to the fish I went. Two or three more fish and the action died, but if I had a boat to store all my rods in I would constantly have one with a bubble gum trick worm tied on to follow up on short strikers. Quote
brian_82 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 pink senkos are great SM lures, i rap a little bit of copper wire around the hook so it sinks faster and has more wobble. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Count me in. That merthiolate trick worm is a killer. I think The bass get ticked off that something so obviously gay has invaded their space. Quote
