Super User everythingthatswims Posted April 26, 2016 Super User Posted April 26, 2016 I recently purchased quite a few lucky craft squarebills since Dick's has them on sale for $7 each, I got a few 1.5s, some SKT MRs, and Mini SKT MRs. I have not had a chance to fish them, but the first thing I am noticing is that the hooks look like someone at lucky craft thinks I'm gonna throw crankbaits with a flipping stick! I'm leaning towards changing them out for gamakatsu round bends which are very thin wire, because I fish my crankbaits on a medium action rod with 10lb fluoro. The hooks are razor sharp, but it just looks like it would require a lot of pressure to sink those stock hooks in. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks BR. Quote

I haven't had any issues with the stock Lucky Craft hooks which I believe are Owner hooks. I wish other lure manufactures would use the same quality hooks, then again it may be a cost consideration. But if you would have more confidence throwing 'em by swapping out the stock hooks for Gamakatsu's then do it. Good fishin' Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 26, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 26, 2016 I change mine out. I believe it's VMC that makes their hooks. I've fished them stock before and they work pretty well, just a confidence thing. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Personally, I'd leave them unless it becomes apparent that you're missing fish that you feel could have been caught with lighter-wire hooks. I don't think that will happen. I use LC Pointers on medium-power, fast-action spinning sticks and can easily sink the hooks into a fish. However, if you choose to swap them out, I bet you'd be able to sell the unused LC hooks for about what you paid for the Gammys. Just about anything LC sells out in a jiffy in this Flea Market. Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I have had no problems with getting good hook sets using the stock LC hooks. I am usually fishing them on a MH/F rod. Quote
SDoolittle Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I've never had an issue with the stock hooks on any Lucky Craft lure. 1 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 26, 2016 Super User Posted April 26, 2016 I leave all LC hooks on & replace as they wear. I do understand your thinking about a lighter wire hook like the Gammy since you are using a lighter action rod with fluoro. There is nothing wrong with changing things up do better match your other tackle selections. LC does use a much heavier hook on their cranks than they use on their jerk baits. Quote
