Mepps Aglia: Single Or Treble Hook ?

Hi,

Small Pond fishing here in Mass.

Mainly smaller size Crappie, Largemouth & Smallmouth too, but "small".

With the Mepps Aglia's, do you folks prefer the treble hook or the single hook ? Why ?

If the single, do you always use with a Trailer ?

If so, what do you usually use as the  Trailer ?

I find the bite/hookup ratio much better with a treble.

Absolutely agree with above.  You will definitely have better hook ups with the treble.  Crimp down the barbs and it will make releasing the fish easier.

I've used the single hook for stream trout with a tiny piece of nightcrawler, and the hook-up ratio was terrible, with or without the 'crawler.

You just have to be quick on the hook set with single hook spinners. The fish pretty much hook themselves on treble hooks.

I usually upsize the treble,  cut one point off and tie hackle on the hook, best of both worlds.

I found a walmart that was selling single hook Rooster Tails for like $2 per, so I bought a half dozen of them to try out.  I fish them for perch and panfish and have had issues with smaller fish just wrecking themselves hitting smaller trebles and managing to get caught on all three points.  White perch season is about to kick off, so I am looking forward to trying them out.
