Phishn_Phool Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 Are they safe for a Heavyweight of 300 lbs??? Quote
John Cullum Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 The seat probadly is but the mount in the floor may not be. Thats alot of stress on the base if your in waves and leaning on it. What kind of boat is it? Quote
Phishn_Phool Posted January 30, 2005 Author Posted January 30, 2005 it's a new cheapy....tracker targa W/T Quote
Bud_in_OR Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Got one on my Crestliner. I've never had a problem. I weigh...choke...280. Bud Quote
Brett_F Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 You should be safe butmy doctor suggested I go with a regular seat to keep down prostate issues. Kind of like a bike rider issues. Pressure in certain areas causing damage in the long run. Quote
abelfisher Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 I've never fished from one of those butt seats, but frankly they don't look very comfortable. It looks like you would still have to have feet firmly planted to stabilize? I prefer the full seat with the back on it. Anyone differ, I would be interested to hear. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 11, 2005 Super User Posted February 11, 2005 I personally like to stand, but with a butt seat you still get the control of standing up and get to rest your legs and back a little bit. It's kinda like leaning up a wall. So you really don't actually sit on it, you lean on it more than you sit on it. Quote
D.Taylor Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 But seats or no seat for me The chair type seat becomes to inviting to sit in when you need to concentrating most people become to relaxed. A but seat can be used to lean upon and for something to hold you in the boat on a windy or rough day. Real Bass Fishermen dont sit down Quote
abelfisher Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 D. Taylor, when you are 50 years old you may want to sit for awhile. And I'm areal bass fisherman. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I think D. Taylor is already 85 or 86 years old. One tough dude that never sits down. 4' chop on the river and he is still standing. Guy is like a weeble wobble. He don't fall down. JT Bagwell Quote
abelfisher Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Well if he can do it at 85 or 86, then I guess I can do it ! Where do I buy those butt seats? ;D ;D ;D Quote
D.Taylor Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Im not that old but I am a weeble wobble lol I fish with guys in their 60's as well as all other ages and the worst thing you can have in the boat with them is a lazy boy seat a butt seat is sufficent. (tournament day only) They will sit on the butt seat for a bit and go right back to fishing. you cant get them out of the chair when its comfortable. Being 50 years old you know how easy it is to take a nap. You are more accurate, more in tune with your bait, can make a quieter entry into the water, get a better hook set standing up or on a butt seat then sitting down. Bill Dance has divers and private lakes so he can do it. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 I would profer a regular seat because you can always lean on the back of the seat. Quote
abelfisher Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Hey dtaylor, If I don't have a lazyboy on the boat, how am I supposed to take my Saturday afternoon nap ;D. Ok, I buy your "in tune with your bait" stuff, etc. But heck, it's still nice to take a nap! ;D ;D Quote
D.Taylor Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Im 27 and I take a nap almost everyday. Thats why I hate the lazy boy seats I know how comfortable they get when the fish do not coperate. Nick when you get tall youll prefer a butt seat. The standard seats hit me square in the back of the knees. When the back is put up they are still too short. Besides that if you are leaning on the back of the seat it will colapse. Quote
BassingWoman Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 "You are more accurate, more in tune with your bait, can make a quieter entry into the water, get a better hook set standing up or on a butt seat then sitting down. "......I don't have a boat YET but this info here about the accuracy makes me want to have a butt seat myself & I am a "hefty" person Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 13, 2005 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 13, 2005 For those of you wondering what a butt seat is, here's a butt seat in the foreground: Notice I have one in the back as well (although I do have the chair too, just in case the backseater prefers that instead). You can purchase them at Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, or, if you want a perfect match like I did, through your boat dealership. Quote
scbassin Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 I don't have any type seat in the front. This gives me a lot of room up there. I also use a hand operated trolling motor so my weight is distributed evenly on my feet. I don't get tired this way & you get a break when you change locations. Quote
D.Taylor Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 On alot of older or shorter boats the seats are to far forward and kinda hard to use a foot controlled trolling motor. A hand controlled could be easier. But the new rescessed decks are one the best inventions things to hit bass fishermen. This will allow more room on thedeck and save on abck injuries. For shorter boats and people who prefer a seat or a but seat they now can be more comfortable. Quote
