JigMaster4 Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Hello, I am going to be getting a new crankbait rod and I was wondering if I should get a 7' medium/fast or a 7' medium/moderate? The rod will be used for squarebills and lipless cranks. I do have a 7' medium/fast right now, would that work and I not spend any for a new rod, or sell that one get one of the 2 previously mentioned. Thank You! Quote
JigMaster4 Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 It is going to be casting, and i will be throwing 1/2 oz lipless and 1.5 squarebills Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I would look at a rod in the 7' range and in either a M/MF or MH/MF. Quote

Super User WRB Posted April 23, 2016 Super User Posted April 23, 2016 You can use the rod you have as long as you can cast the lure easily. Ideally a crank bait rod has a moderate action for 2 reasons; casts lures easier and is more forgiving when a bass is near to you, will bend with with less force reducing tearing out treble hooks. What line do you plan to use? Tom Quote
Wingman87 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I generally throw all my squarebills and traps on a medium fast rod with 12 lbs flouro. The faster action is great for ripping squares and traps through grass and cover. Quote
Tmmytomato Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 For lipless I'd use a rod with more backbone and faster tip and preferably 7' in length. For 1.5 cranks I really prefer a MM in either 6'6" or 7'. Luckily I have enough rods to cover either situation. If I was limited to a single rod it would probably be a 7' Medium Extra fast. Quote
mwh33 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I use a dobyns 705cb which is MH/MF and I throw my squarebills and traps with yo-zuri hybrid 15 lb. Quote
