smallies24/7 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Looking for a rod to throw 3/4 oz heads with 4-5inch soft swimbaits, as this range is just past what I feel comfortable with for my EMTF. What length, power, and action would you recommend for these baits? They also have fairly stout hooks. Will be using either 30lb braid or 14lb fluoro. Rod recommendations are also welcome. Budget is $250 give or take. Thanks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 I generally use any MH jig rod I have handy in the 7-7.5' range, and spooled with 12-15# CXX. I don't really over think it. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Ya nothing too technique specific. Power depends on the brand and model. Probably a Hvy. Quote
Super User webertime Posted April 23, 2016 Super User Posted April 23, 2016 7'2" heavy Daiwa Zillion or Tatula. Quote
d-camarena Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Any medium heavy or heavy depending on brand will work. I use a medium heavy moderate but thats just personal preference Quote
smallies24/7 Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 Do you guys feel a mod-fast action will aid in letting the fish take the bait a little more but still have enough power for the hookset? Quote

I don't think that's necessary, personally. I'd get a fast action since you're dealing with a single hook. Might be just me though Quote
