YoTone Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Went out to this spot that i go fishing during my lunch and see this old guy fishing there, i say hello and he talked about some other spots near. one of the spots i know about and i asked him if he lost any lures there because i found a bunch during low tide. he says no, so anyways on my way back from lunch a few minutes later and i had a hunch something was fishy. i go back to the box i made and half of it was missing. i see his thieving butt come out of a spot retying his lure and he says he just lost it, He then said he just wanted to try it out but got snagged and lost it. i then asked about the other stuff that was missing and he was like idk. i felt like kicking him in the water right then. sorry if im posting in the wrong section but im just venting out. Super User J Francho Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 Maybe he needs it more than you think. Who knows. What did you expect? You can't police the thing. People are shady when left to their own devices. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 Can't believe there are still roadside stands that have no one occupying them. Just a sign with prices on them. Its the same concept. You leave people to decide what is right and wrong. Most people know the right thing to do. Some do it, some don't. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 Is it really stealing when there is No Owner. Who's he stealing from - You ? Possession's 9/10 th's of the law. And that last tenth is almost always floating around in a pretty gray area. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 When it comes to lost lures, it has always been finders keepers. I have lost a truck load, and found a few. Do you really think a box of lost lures left lakeside is only going to be checked for specific baits lost there? I could empty your box many times over without getting as much as I've lost. Your motivation is honorable, but naive. Be careful kicking old guys. Some of us won't take kindly to it. 5 Quote
YoTone Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 yah i sure was naive. it was a secluded type of spot and over the last few weeks i kept seeing brand new lures at low tide. i felt bad for whomever lost them so i tried to do the right thing. wouldnt stop me from doing it again though. 3 Quote
d-camarena Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I own a small taco shop, one time i found a 100 dollar bill. I asked customers if they had lost one till i finally found the oqner of the bill. Couple hours later i got a call from a guy who was asking if we had found that bill. I had given the bill to the wrong person Quote
bralexander Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I have never seen a lost and found lure box before, but it is a cool idea! Kudos to you, Yotune, but people suck. I will occasionally leave a lure I don't have any affection for at a fishing spot, thinking that maybe someone else will have better luck with it than me. So maybe that will make you feel a bit better, just knowing that somewhere out there, instead of taking lures, a person is leaving lures (on purpose). Bruce 1 Quote

Super User deaknh03 Posted April 23, 2016 Super User Posted April 23, 2016 You should hang out and guard the box....or just let it go and not worry who takes what. Things tend to balance out over time. 17 minutes ago, A-Jay said: A Lure box sounds nice but I want to stumble across a Beer Box ~ A-Jay Ive seen those..they keep them in the cold area at the supermarket. 1 Quote
avidone1 Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Call me a name if you wish, but I really doubt that your 'lost and found' for lures was a noble gesture on your part. It sounds like it was a way for you 'police' other anglers and pass judgement on them. Your 'thieving butt' comment and the fact that you wanted to kick an old man who can only bank fish, is a pretty sad comment. Sorry dude, but better you should take the lures home and quietly give them to some kids, then make a big show out of being the lost lure angel, and being hostile to poor old guys. just sayin'............... Super User K_Mac Posted April 23, 2016 Super User Posted April 23, 2016 YoTone, I think Avidone1 makes a point about giving found lures away. Giving lures away is as much a part of fishing as losing them IMO. Giving them back to the fishermen that lost them is not practical, but giving them to someone who needs them is a great way to promote fishing. The look on someone's face when you cut off a bait that they have seen you catching fish on, and giving it to them is worth more than the cost of the bait in my view. Fishing is supposed to be fun. Life is too short to get stressed over things you can't control. Enjoy the process. S. Sass, the emojis in your post seems to indicate you think it's funny. I don't. 1 Quote

Yeah was like what did you just say. I wasn't sure how he went from life's to short to picking on a emoji but OK. Now what was it that was so serious? No one was hurt a guy was trying to do the right thing but was neive maybe and got burnt. Sounds a lot like politics. But hey the guy that lost a $100 must have a lot of money or doesnt care because I don't have a lot and If I have a $100 I can guarantee you I am not losing it. Don't believe me give me a $100 and get back with me later. 1 Quote
