I see about once a day guys asking about the best reel for $100 surely this is a steal.

Don't bother trying to order. Even though the web site says they are in stock, they aren't. I ordered one two days ago and got a message today saying it was on backorder. I checked the web site again and it said the reel was in stock. I called customer service to ask why a reel that was in stock was back ordered and they told me my order had been cancelled because they were out of stock, the reel has been discontinued, and they will be getting no more in. I got no message telling me that. If I hadn't called, I still wouldn't know the reel was never going to come. They have an antiquated system that does not match actual inventory to what they offer online. You can even "check online availability" from the web page, but it means nothing because it apparently can take 5 days for the inventory people to update the online catalog.  Ordering from Cabela's online store is a crapshoot because you never know if they actually have what they are selling.

Ahh man I was just gonna order one of the 6.6 ratio ones I figured I have lost $99 on a worse risk. No wonder Bass Pro is going after them they are falling apart.

I ordered line to go with the reel. I tried to cancel the line order but the line has been shipped. Great, I now will have a new spool of line but there is no reel to put it on. I really wasn't in the market for another reel, but you don't get $300 reels for $100 every day so I ordered it. I'll use the line eventually I guess.

This very thing happened to me last November.I ordered a Strafic Fj  2500 and then a few days later they cancelled my order.Out of stock.

Just hung up with their Customer Service #. Supposedly they have like 1 or 2 of these 6.6 ratio reels in their retail store in Alaska. They claim that could be wrong as well as it is just a inventory number and those are sometimes off by 1 or 2. I said great call them let them get one in their hand and we will know. Believe it or not they cant do that. Not allowed...  (great business practice there fellas)

Then I said well give me the number and I will call. Guess what she can give me the number but the retail store numbers are sometimes answered by the Customer Service so I could just get someone back here possibly her.  Next she said even if they have one and i happened to get a hold of them I would have to "sweet talk", (yes she said that) the store into shipping me one, if they have it.  I said why is that? She said well they no longer ship out of any of their retail stores. So basically once something makes it to a store its there till it sells or dies. (more great business practice there fellas)

Anyway she supposedly is working to try and get me one. but it didn't sound very promising. It is clearly understandable why they are not doing to well. I mean my goodness how about lets kill our own business plan. Its called follow Cabelas.

I was lucky to hit the cabelas in Delaware and got the last one which they price matched off the website AND got 15% off cause it was the display model.  

It pays to be informed and know what you are looking for.  Means you can pick up good deals when stuff goes on clearance.

  Cabelas had this same deal on black Friday, except it was only good for the reels that the store had on hand.  You had to go to the store to get them, no online orders.  I went to the store bright and early, and there were none of these reels left.  The manager of the fishing dept told me there were only 2, but theyre gone, and they were sold out.  What a crock of $hI+, 2 reels in the whole store!!!

Same thing happened to me with some goose decoys a couple years ago. they were on sale for $200 which is a hell of a deal, so i ordered 4 packs for our group. They were listed as "in stock" but then got an email a few days later that my order was canceled (not backordered), not stating a reason. Two weeks later they were back in stock at $300.

Yeah it does seem almost like it could be one of those bait deals. There is only a couple of the item in the country they run huge discount on to get people calling and coming in at a above normal volume hoping you might pick something up while there. I found it quite insane i was talking to a Cabelas and yet she could not contact a Cabelas in Alaska. I asked her to "sweet talk" them into sending me one since she was saying I could. Then she craw fished saying she wasn't allowed and that just because inventory said 2 that they were taught that meant there were none when it was that low of a number. So I guess they lose so much merchandise that inventory is a guess on the $300 and up reels. Maybe they are passing them out at Christmas parties to the employees?

A couple of yeas ago cabelas had a sale on the same real for $139 for the first 5 hours on a Saturday morning. I went and was there when they opened. They had zero in stock, I was mystified. The employee in the fishing dept let me pick any reel in that price range for the same price. I ended up buying a curado 300 for $139.

Just curious here. Was it the 300 size you were interested in? I handled the 100, 200 and 300 not long ago and 300 felt huge.

Not really. I did look online for physical dimensions on the 300 but never found any. I thought it might be on the bigger side of the reels. I would have been very happy with a 100 or a 200 but figured a brand new 300 I would try for $100.00.  No matter they arent selling any of the 6.6:1 ones it appears anyway. Sort of like a sign I guess I didnt need it.

Hehe...yeah maybe so on the sign. I had the same happen when they were on sale for black friday. By the time I decided I wanted to try one they were sold out.

Looks like they have finally updated their website to say "not available online".
