I have been experimenting with lines for my swim jig rod. I am wondering what most of you recommend when fishing a swim jig? To note, I will be fishing around light to moderate cover, and open water. Also, I use 1/4 to 3/8 oz swimbaits. Thanks for the help.

I go 30-40lb braid...fell it lets me better control the action when I work the bait.  When I'm popping it, or going above or through grass, braid helps immensely

17 pound test Trilene XT monofilament with 1/4 ouce swim jigs most times.

Where I fish swim jigs I want to keep them high in the water column and not bogged down in the weeds and other cover obstructions.

High-quality 30lb braid. The braid rips though weeds better, and the extra few buck for smooth, quality braid means a few more yards of casting distances and less annoyance from the sound of cheap braid whizzing through the the rod guides.

I don't use a leader either. I don't feel the heavy cover requires it.

I like Samurai or 832, as far as lines go. Use one end for half a season, then reverse it for half a season and use the other end. You'll get your $10-15 worth over the course of a year.

Why are so many of you using braid? Is braid your normal lime for other techniques or is it specific to swim jigs?    I only use braid for frogs but would like to here the reason for braid in a swim jig presentation.

I use braid almost all the time for everything. I not much of a crank bait fisherman, but when I do I use a 6' leader of mono in the appropriate line size for the bait/cover.

I use braid for everything also.  For swim jigs I use 30 lb 832 or PP.  I love ripping swim jigs through the middle of or on the edges of weeds and braid kicks butt in the scenario.  I fish out of a kayak so don't have the availability of 20 rods on the deck.  Using the braid through open water sure hasn't seemed to have had a negative affect either.
