Just a rant post. I try to save a dollar on gear whenever I can but what is Bass Pro trying to do? I mean not a few cents but dollars difference in prices. I use Bass Pro just to put my hands on rods or just to look at an item before I head to online stores these days. Mom and Pop stores are cheaper than BP or Field and Stream. Just looked at my last catalog and a pack of 25 Gammy EWGs cost $18.99!! Wow really. I know its my choice where to purchase but man they are keeping a lot of people away.  I see why TW and the like gets the bulk of my business.

Why do they sell at that price? Because people buy at that price!

Plain and simple.

I can't stand BPS and haven't dropped a dime in that store in a very long time.  It's cool to look at the critters swimming around in the aquariums but other than that...

Not all their prices are outrageous. You just have to be smart and know what you're willing to pay.

Bass pro is situational for me at best. I absolutely love going into the their stores but it terms of buying tackle I usually only buy something that is on sale for less than anywhere else. A month or so ago they had whopper plopper's on sale around $10 and were offering free shipping. Last week it was red eye shad's on sale for $5.11 which was decent. I had seen them cheaper on that auction site but the color selection was poor.

I have over 20 online stores that I scan through when looking to buy a bunch of stuff. Part of this is a result of being on a tight budget and part of it that I enjoy finding great deals. BPS is usually the last place I will check.

I dont know how places like this even compete with online places like TW once i found TW and other various online places bass pro's (even though theres none around me) just became a place to go look and touch things.

Another great example of consumer choice. I do go to BPS, but only on occasion I feel like browsing. Most of my bass fishing $ is spent at TW.

Can't beat the selection or price. And to all the peeps that shout "buy local", most of us make an effort, but a dollar only goes so far.

I use BPS, Cabelas, and the like for ice fishing and other sporting goods. Hard to buy a big ice shanty or decoys when shipping is $20+.

And some of us don't even have a local shop that carries a half-decent selection.

I've kind of adopted a shop in SC that also sells over the web as my "local" shop. They offer a yearly free shipping, "Prime" like deal as well, so that sweetens it too. I've had great service, emailed back and forth with the owners, and will give it my patronage whenever possible.

TW and Outdoor Pro Sports gets all of my business minus one item. BPS makes "6 Speed Shads. For some reason Keitech doesn't make them that big so I only have one option.

I'm lucky that I have 2 BPS, Cabela's, 2 mom and pop/pro shops, Scheel's, and 2 Academy sports (along with a few DSG's that I never go to), all within easy driving distance. I can keep my eyes open for sales and stock up as things become available or shop online for the best price for an item I need before driving to the store.
