bt8897 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Does anyone have much experience with these rods? Is the Savvy worth the extra $50? Quote
Robert Riley Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I own a savvy or two, and have fished the fury a few times. I'd definitely say that it is worth the extra dough. The savvy has fair sensitivity and the fury is pretty lacking in my opinion. I would say, however, that it depends on the technique you are using it for. If you are getting it as an all purpose rod ---> Savvy If you are looking for a reaction bait rod -----> Fury If you are looking for a jig/plastics rod --------> Savvy If you want the best rod for your money ------> Champion 1 Quote
Rbm18 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I have both and I think the fury is just a little heavier. If you got the extra money I would go with the savvy. But the fury is a nice Rod too. 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 19, 2016 Super User Posted April 19, 2016 Savvys are great moving bait rods. It's one of the last rods in its price point I would buy for sensitivity. I don't even like the champions for sensitivity purposes and I really big dobyns user. I would personally save the 80$ and get a Fury. 1 Quote

Just curious what's your favorite rod for sensitivity (that you've used)? Quote

bt8897 Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Kstler helium that is the most sensitive I own. I recently sold a st croix mojo bass that I was using for jerkbaits, i wasnt impressed with it sensitivity. Looking for an all purpose rod. Thanks for all the replies Quote
dam0007 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 I prefer the Fury Blank over the Savvy hands down but the Savvy has better guides and gives you the option to get micro guides if that's something you're interested in. The Fury line is using 30Ton Toray blanks, a fancy way of stating the type of graphite, which I find to be more sensitive all around. If it were me trying to stretch my cash I'd go Fury. BUT If I wanted the best for my money I'd skip the Savvy all together and go Champion. The CS line has so many rods in the line up you can find pretty much any Rod for any application you could want. let us know what you plan on throwing with it. I haven't used every Rod from Dobyns but enough I could try to point you in the right direction for which model would be good for you. If not me there's plenty of guys on BR who have been using Dobyns stuff far longer than I have. Quote
bt8897 Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 Im looking for a rod for spinner baits, fluke, jerkbaits, maybe small square bills and in a pinch T rigs. Just looking for a rod that I can use in small farm ponds where its hard to carry a lot of gear. I guess something that will work for a lot of baits. I have the money to step up to the champion if that would be my best bet Thanks Brian Quote
Rbm18 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Savvy 703 is a great all around Rod in my opinion. 1 Quote
illinifan4152 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 For your desired techniques, I would personally go with the savy 703. Perfect for those applications. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I would recommend the Dobyns 733 or 734 for those techniques. Personally, I'd do a 734, but I like my rods a little on the heavy side. The 734 is perfect for spinnerbaits and an all-around workhorse. I know it wasn't among the lures you mentioned, but it's a 10-out-of-10 power/action for lipless cranks in grass, as well. Since you mentioned moving baits, I wouldn't necessarily think you'd need to spend the extra $50, which will only get you a little more sensitivity and maybe a fraction of an ounce less weight. I'd go with a Fury 733 or 734 and start putting money away for a boat! That's how you're going to get fish. Then you can can put 10 rods in there! Quote
Jim72 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I have the fury 703 casting rod.i have used spinnerbaits ,rattletraps ,spoons.also used shaky head on it .it casts good, I could feel the bottom on the shaky head .i thought the sensitivity is adequate but probably not as sensitive as a more expensive rod .my overall impression it's a good 100 dollar rod.
