3dees Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 as much as I enjoy fishing with my son and/or grandson, I find it easier to be alone. I don't have to worry about boat position, especially when flipping and pitching. I am also more concerned with getting others on fish, otherwise I feel like I failed them. when I'm alone, I'm more relaxed and there is no pressure. Quote

Been doing freedive spearfishing, freedive lobstering, freedive wreck diving, freediving in natural freshwater springs, etc for close to 20 years now and agree that it is best to dive with a partner than dive alone. Have done many solo beach dives as well( have done more dives with a partner), but you have to be in excellent health to do these types of beach dives and even then I still would reccomend someone to dive with to be safe. Wurming67 Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Might sound selfish of me but I work hard got a very physically demanding job so when the weekend rolls around to fish that's my time just me and mother nature I don't even like to fish around other boats. 1 Quote

I totally agree. Fishing is my escape and my therapy. 2 Quote
The Kangler Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 I fish alone all the time. Â However I would love to find a mentor/ partner to learn from. Â Â Quote
Russ E Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 i fish alone 95% of the time. I fish during the week while most people are at work. it is refreshing to have a partner in the boat occasionally. I am always more successful when I am alone. when someone else is in my boat I spend a lot more time trying to get them in position to fish. 1 Quote

Yes, I am in no way suggesting, or recommending anyone dive alone. I originally joined the military to dive, and even though that didn't happen, I have had exposure and training with and by professional and combatant divers that gives me a level,of comfort I can live with. Still when the you know what hits the fan, it's an extra level of safety to have a buddy, assuming equal or similar capabilities. Everyone please be safe. Quote
flg2010 Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 I prefer alone.. simply because as I get older I find that finding people with the same interests is impossible. At some point I hope to get my wife to go out with me.. maybe if I am around in 10 years and contemplating retirement I can get her to join me on a small boat in a lake somewhere.  Right now I Fish the Walkill River system and have given myself the project of catching a state record Rock Bass. That is a solitary pursuit.   Quote

I don't mind so much with good friends but I fish in a club where we draw partners but each guy is responsible for his own limit. I spend the day trying to catch a limit but also feel responsible for them catching a limit as well.  Quote
Super User JustJames Posted May 15, 2018 Super User Posted May 15, 2018 I don't know 2 years ago I fish with my buddy a lot and sometime I wish I came out by myself. He is one of those never quit type but I'm family come first. This past two years I mostly fish by myself since my buddy had to moved for his work. He did come visit me last year a few times. Now I wish I had some good buddy that I can fish, share the lures the techniques, heck even talk bad about the wifes while fishing. 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 depends, with my fishing buddies we have great laughs and its a good time. but some days being out in the woods alone is so amazing. quiet, just the sounds of nature.  Quote
SJex Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Nothing gives me more joy than fishing with my son and daughter. Fishing alone allows me to concentrate more on technique. But fishing with my kids is way more fun. Fishing with them leaves me with a great sense of pride, and memories that I will always cherish. Much in the same way as it was fishing with my father. I love fishing alone, but I would rather fish with my friends or family. Quote
Terry_ Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Since we were children, my fishing partner has been my brother. We are in our forties now, and a few years ago he moved to SAN Diego(from Georgia). We still make time to fish in Ga or Ca at least once a year. Though I do still enjoy fishing alone, there is not much I wouldn't do to have my brother in my boat again on every trip. Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I mostly fish alone but sometimes some conversation is appreciated. Quote
Rpratt Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I seem to have much better days when fishing by myself. I don't have the worries of making sure whoever I am fishing with is not having a good time, that my boat is not positioned to where they can't fish etc etc. However, there is nothing much more fun and satisfying then when you have your ultra competitive good buddy out there with ya, and you just nail a nice fish in front of him ? Super User Mobasser Posted May 18, 2018 Super User Posted May 18, 2018 I often fish 2 smaller lakes alone. But, I like going with my son in laws and enjoy the company too. Quote
einscodek Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 When I'm with someone else I am really going to help that person catch fish and enjoy. I really at that point have low expectations for myself. When I am after the big un', I take noone with me except a camera. Quote
WDE Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Typically alone. I’m strictly a bank fisherman; and if I don’t get a bite in 10-15 casts while fan casting, I’m on the move and I’ll leave my partner.  My buddy that I will fish with occasionally doesn’t fish as much as I do, so when he sees me catching fish, he gets discouraged/frustrated and will be ready to leave long before I even think about departing. I find it rude to just keep fishing while he throws in the towel and sits there. I have to remind him that sometimes, especially in the Winter, I’ll go days without a single bite.  It’s just easier for me to have my own agenda and not worry about another person and focus solely on fishing and being in the moment. Quote
Super User MickD Posted May 18, 2018 Super User Posted May 18, 2018 Small water, I prefer alone or with my zealot son. Big water, Lake St Clair and Saginaw Bay, I don't go alone. Better to have a partner in case something goes wrong.  Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 18, 2018 Super User Posted May 18, 2018 I do a mix of both. I enjoy it either way. I catch more usually when alone. Quote

Super User geo g Posted May 19, 2018 Super User Posted May 19, 2018 I always enjoy fishing with a partner whenever I go out. I have 5 good fisherman I can call who fish with me often. They all have different skills and will sometimes get on a pattern before I do. They don't have boats, and I provide an opportunity to fish places they don't normally fish. Once on a pattern we will make adjustments from there. It is always better when you share the experience with a friend.. There are always lots of laughs, and it just makes for a better experience.  Its all about having fun!? Quote
nosdog2 Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 When I fish alone I usually catch a 10lb'r.......  ?  I have no preference as long as I am on the water.  I enjoy fishing with a friend to chat and learn since I am a new boater. Quote
