TxHawgs Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have heard and read a lot of good things about these rods lately. I haven't had one in my hand and was looking for some opinions from someone fishing them. Their price is $200 and I talked to a guy that has them and many other rods and was comparing them to NRX rods? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 No fishing yet. Had them out a couple days ago for a little casting practice. Rods seem fairly light. Nothing fancy that I noticed in the build. It has been mentioned they have a nice parabolic bend. Have to agree. Action is a lot like my Falcons. The 7' MH will be going with me tomorrow. Hope to catch a fish or two, but ain't going to hold my breath til I do. Bought 2 used rods. Noticed the 7'3" MH had the insert missing out of the tip top guide while stringing on line. Made a few casts anyway. Emailed Hammer. They are sending me a few tips....as in plural although I did give them the model number. No cost, no questions. I like my Falcon rods so imagine I'll like these as well. Am interested in what others have to say about Hammer. The few comments I've read about the rods have all been positive. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 From the guys that I know that fish them they are great rods at their price point and worth the consideration. They are NOT on the level of the NRX. The rods are slight slower in action so consider that as well. If you are buying one thinking it will give you the feel of a NRX and being light in weight, you will probably be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you have $200 or less to spend on a rod and are looking for something at that price point they would be worth a look. I believe Smalljaw67 and a few others have them and have been very impressed for a rod at that price point. 1 Quote
Kidflex Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I have a hammer 7'3 hvy and an nrx 7'1"hvy. I gaurantee you the hammer is lighter. Sensitivity is amazing. Don't fool yourself and think the nrx rods are really fast and extra fast. My nrx 803jwr & 854jwr rods have a pretty parabolic action, especially compared to the same models of glx & imx. Kinda like how the mbr844 differs in imx & glx models. Big difference. Just my thoughts though, from someone with all above mentioned rods Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 I have a Hammer, it is a 6'9" Heavy and I'm going to get more. Kickerfish1 explained it perfectly, it isn't an NRX but at the price point it is very impressive. The action is slower, reminds me of the JDM style tapers but the rods aren't sloppy like the Halo rods, in fact I thought myy rod was close to a fast action until I hooked into my first decent fish with it, that is when you understand, it is like a mod-fast taper, similar to the Fitzgerald rods. What got me is the blank is American made, I really wasn't expecting much with an American made rod at that price point but when I got it I was quite surprised. The build quality is excellent, guides are perfect, epoxy work is perfect and it has the raw carbon look I like. There is nothing flashy or fancy, it is a straight up fishing rod, nothing more or nothing less, but the blank is really nice as are the grips which are Winn grips, Fuji ECS reel seat, and Fuji micro guides with aluminum oxide inserts. I got my rod for big topwaters like full size zara spooks and super spooks but it turned out to be an incredible spinnerbait/chatterbait rod, in fact my first 3 fish with it came on a chatterbait and not a single lost fish so far, I like a little more every time I use it. The one thing that is really strange to me is the feel, I'm not use to a rod like this that feels like it is a bottom contact rod that flexes like a moving bait rod, but the sensitivity is nice, and it is nice to the point that I keep getting tempted to throw a jig with it, but if I do that I'll be ruined if I end up liking it so for now it is moving baits and as I said, I'll be adding more in the future and you can bet on it, they really are good rods. I sprained my ankle yesterday when I helped move a dead tree that fell across the road going to my local boat ramp. Very painful using stairs. I drive a 6-speed. Using a clutch also causes pain. Better I stay off the road. Suxs. Finally nice weather on a weekend, and I have to stay home. Quote
shackman Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I have a 7' mh and I like it a lot! Just like everyone else says, it does have a paribolic bend to it which I like, I think they are great rods. Quote

autigerbass Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I have heard very good things about these rods. For those that have fished them, what do you think of the Winn grips? Are they comfortable? I used to golf a lot, and they were always comfortable on my clubs. Not sure if their fishing rod grip material is the same as their golf club grip material. Quote

I've fished 1\4 oz jigs, lightweight tx rigs and 3\8 oz spinnerbaits with it and it serves them all well. 11 hours ago, autigerbass said: I have heard very good things about these rods.
