I walked through a seed tick nest setting out a trail camera a couple years ago. Kept feeling like I had something crawling on me but couldn't see anything. Finally got a flashlight out and there were hundreds of ticks crawling on my legs that were the size of a pin head. I probably scrubbed the first couple layers of skin off in the shower when I got home. Then I went through my truck with a flashlight and found several crawling on my seat and floor. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

Ticks are pretty much the reason that I don't mushroom hunt too.

I had the exact same thing happen, but I was hiking and about 5 miles from my car.  Who knew I could speed walk 5 miles in just a little over an hour?  Got as many as I could off with windex wipes from my car, then speed home.  Stripped down in my driveway and scrubbed myself with a piece of burlap covered in peppermint soap.

As for my car, it was June so I just left it parked in the sun for a day or two and cooked the little SOBs to death.

I'm going to try Sawyer's Permethrin if the ticks get out of hand. It has great reviews on Amazon.

It works great if you follow the instructions exactly and remember to re-spray your gear every other wash or so.

Went through some deep woods over the weekend.

I found 1 crawling on my neck trying to dig in.
1 friend had one crawling on his arm.
My other friend on the other hand had 3 crawling on his hoodie. Also found 1 in his chest, 2 in his arm...Lucky him.

Back in the day, before Lyme disease was well known I used to trout fish on Long Island.  Where I went you had to slog through pretty dense brush and tall grass.  The fishing was worth it.  Beautiful spot full of rainbows that would rise to a well presented fly, but when I got home I would light a cigarette and burn off the ticks that were sucking on my leg like I was a KFC drumstick.

I didn't think anything of it.  It was just part of the deal.

Where's there deer there is ticks. More of them.

I researched into the skeeters virus and for a repellant they say pine tar soap. I'm not sure if it works with tics too.

Garlic works. Those dryer softener towels works hanging off the rear of your hat.

So now there is a reason to buy garlic scent over crawfish.  It's dual purpose.

On a recent camping/fishing outing I sprayed down with this Repel stuff found at walmart. 40% deet. I sprayed my clothes, boots, hat, hair, and skin. I found no ticks on me after leaving the island.

My buddy that went with me didn't spray and found 4 seed ticks on him upon returning home.

He is ex-army and said next time he is eating some match heads like he did in Iraq.

Guess the stuff works ok lol.

If I don't use something with minimum 20% deet and spray myself real good with it, I will get ticks at some of the places I fish. I don't leave home without repellent when I go to those spots. It seems to do the job.

I check myself good when I get home to. If you do have a tick on you carrying LD, the faster you get it off you the better the chances are you don't get sick.
