Kevin22 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I got bit by a mosquito a couple hours ago.. In april! The ticks are terrible out at lost grove, I quit bank fishing there because of them. Heck I even manage to get them when in the boat! Quote

I literally am terrified of ticks too which sucks lol Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted April 16, 2016 Super User Posted April 16, 2016 Yup.. turkey ticks really suck. Suck it up, buttercup..lol Quote
IowaBass15 Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 Haha the fear of the Lyme disease isn't going to stop me from catching those green monsters lol. Quote

Those were 6's all day long in the spring. Probably 7's this may. I caught a 22" (didn't weigh it) ice fishing in 2014. You just have to get past the thousands of 12" fish to get to a good one. Quote

Kevin22 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Its a lot better right now than in the summer/fall. The grass and bushes haven't started growing yet, you can walk around most of the little lake with ease. The wind really effects that lake so keep that in mind. I had the boat in there about a month ago and had 42 degrees on the south end of the little lake and 55 degrees on the north end (south wind). With the south wind today I bet the north end was 60 degrees or more, should have been a good bite going on. Quote
IowaBass15 Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 If you need a fishing buddy let me know lol. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 17, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 17, 2016 I walked through a seed tick nest setting out a trail camera a couple years ago. Kept feeling like I had something crawling on me but couldn't see anything. Finally got a flashlight out and there were hundreds of ticks crawling on my legs that were the size of a pin head. I probably scrubbed the first couple layers of skin off in the shower when I got home. Then I went through my truck with a flashlight and found several crawling on my seat and floor. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. Ticks are pretty much the reason that I don't mushroom hunt too. 3 Quote
nhpleasantlakebass Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 But those wild morrels are sooooooo good 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 Yes, especially in high grass along the bank. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 Yes, Blue Hills Reservoir & the surrounding reservation (MA) is loaded with them. I'm careful about checking myself before I leave there. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 I can't stand ticks. I try to keep out of the high weeds as much as possible, but sometimes those little buggers are in the short grass too. Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Found 4 on me and 3 on my dog yesterday. Usually I treat my clothes with permethrin and use off deep woods. 1 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 18, 2016 Super User Posted April 18, 2016 100% Deet is the only thing I've found that will keep them off. I fish a few places where ticks are a problem. Take this seriously. If you've ever known someone who contracted Lime disease, you already know how serious that is. If you don't know how bad that can be, look it up. If it doesn't scare you, you don't the sense god gave a goose. 1 Quote

Get your frogs out. Water temp is 60-65 there, and there are a lot of scum mats forming. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted April 19, 2016 Super User Posted April 19, 2016 I started using Sawyer permethrin. Just spray it on your pants and its good for 3-4 washes. Seems to work, now if I could only find something that prevents poison ivy rash I'll be ok. 100% Deet gives me a bad rash. 1 Quote
Bladesmith, Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I live in an area where ticks are a constant problem. We all learned years ago to spray a little kerosene on our pants legs and boots or shoes. Smells but keeps ticks off. My grandmother used to put a cup of kerosene (called "coal oil" back in those days) in her wash water for work clothes. Not a sexy smell but then ticks aren't particularly sexy either. It works folks and isn't expensive. Quote
IowaBass15 Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 I'd end up in flames somehow. Lol. Usually I just use deet but haven't grabbed a bottle yet. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 20, 2016 Super User Posted April 20, 2016 If I get ticks on me when I am in the boat, something has gone terribly wrong LOL. I don't know what it is about me, but ticks (and women) find me undesirable. I can walk through tick infested area's and never get a single one on me........the guys at work walk through the same area's and get festooned with them..........I am dead serious. Quote

My buddy's place in N wisconsin is loaded with ticks. You don't even have to be in the thick grass to get them on you. I would say we had at least one on our clothes every time we went outside. I found that the repel lemon eucalyptus worked pretty well this past year. That being said the bigger ticks are wood ticks and don't carry lyme disease. Thanks for the post bud I can't stop itching now. Quote
