Hi, I recently bought, some spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, they claimed to be 1/4 oz, but they looked  larger than my  3/8 oz spinnerbait from strike king. So I put them on a scale, and the "1/4 oz" baits actually weighted out between 14.6 and 14.9 grams or a lil over 1/2 oz each. While the 3/8 oz from strike king was a lil closer to its claimed weight at 12.3 grams. Maybe im missing something or maybe there is a reason the "1/4 oz" baits where only a dollar. Now I recived a buzzbait from strike king that claims the weight is "3/8 oz" but placing it on the scale reveals an actual weight of 18.8 grams ,almost  double the claimed weight. Im trying to figure out if some of these lures are too large for my rod which is rated for lures in the 1/4 to 3/8 oz range.

Thoughts?

the lead head of the baits weighs however much it says on the packaging , the rest of the lure (blade, skirt, wire, hook, trailer hook, etc) just gives it more weight. This is the norm for vast majority of the "blade" lures out there.

1/4 is suppose to be larger than 3/16.

both of those lures exceeded 2X the claimed weight, do expect that from lures with blades as bigger the blade, more weight it adds.

You'll be fine. Those ratings are a rule of thumb, not anything definitive.
