Virginia beach bass

My girlfriend lives in Virginia beach and I see a lot of potential places to fish, are there any good legal places to hit up around the va beach area while I'm town with her? I visit monthly

You only see her once a month you may want to focus on her or there may not be a her for long, I'm just saying

I'm only in Virginia monthly, and for a week at a time. She was wanting some places to go catch some

My daughter lives in Virginia Beach and my brother lives in Hampton I will ask them to see if they know of any good public places to fish in the area.

You may want to message Darren he is in the Hampton Roads area he may know some places

She lives in Chesapeake so anywhere close to there would be awesome. I read that a small lake called oak grove should be a good place to start, I just mainly want a legal place to fish that could potentially yield a few fish.

Are we fishing from the bank, from a boat, a kayak,,,,? That could change some answers. There are many options here

Okay... If bank fishing, I recommend pretty much any body of water created for drainage purposes. Because the topography is so flat there are numerous small drainage ponds created which hold fish. Use google earth and  find several that are accessible. I can think of a dozen that hold fish within 15 minutes of my house, and some of them are large fish. In Chesapeake you are within 30 minutes of several bodies of good water. You might try the Lone Star Lakes in Suffolk or the extensive drainage system close to Chesapeake Square Mall. If you find someone with a boat I highly recommend Lake Western Branch or Lake Prince. Tight lines

Oak Grove can be a good lake, but it does get plenty of pressure.  I've caught many bass there in the 4-5 lb. range.  It also has a lot of small bluegill and catfish.  The Northwest River off 168 South just before you get into Carolina also offers some bank fishing.  You can expect some bass, crappie, white perch, catfish, bluegill, etc.  There is also a small pond at the Northwest River Park.  It generally does not hold big fish, though some are in it.  As has been pointed out, any neighborhood lake in your area will likely have good to excellent bass fishing.  It amazes me how many big bass come out of those small ponds.  There are many other options if you open up your search area to Suffolk or even North Carolina, but the shore fishing options aren't as great.

I'm wanting to stay close to the Chesapeake area, I'll probably just start off with oak grove this visit

Oak Grove is getting rough. Ive fished there probably more than anywhere else in Chesapeake. Like VaHUnter said it gets a ton of pressure. Ive always had my bet luck there early in the AM around sunrise. I fish the Greenbrier and Great Bridge area a lot. There are a ton of spots to go in these areas. The lakes around greenbrier mall usually pretty good. They are all interconnected to most of the lakes in Greenbrier and the banks can be a hot spot. I went by the mall off greenbrier tonight and parked by sears and walked over to the water, tossed a pink senko in and first cast had a 4LBer.  There are no waterways that have good bank access, so most of your success is going to come from small ponds. Cedar Rd has a ton of good little spots along it.

Big shout out to chmeyers for hooking me up with my new pb largemouth! We tried your place at Sears then moved down to the other end and found some bed fish, second cast I lost a 6lber at the bank. Then after some aggravating patience I finally hooked my new pb bass! Pics do not do it justice as I'm 6'7", but she weighed 9lb 2oz.

What were you throwing to snag that hawg? Seems over there lately all I've had luck with is pink senkos.

Second day report, we went to mt trashmore and caught fish on a keitech 3.8 on a rugby jig, and a 5" senkos wacky rigged. The fish where tight around rocks and the boat docks

How big were the Trashmore bass? Also there used to be some good striper and walleye fishing there, if you decide to branch out

We really don't have the time to get into serious fishing, we walked around and I just fished visible underwater structure. And all the fish where 12-14", got some good visible strikes on the wacky rig.
