Vlad Val Yevdash Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Should i get the glx for $320 or the imx for $200? Is the $120 really worth it? Im going to be using the rod for jigs, flipping and pitching softbaits, and some topwater. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 If you can afford it, yes. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 Yes, and depending upon what price you are paying for the GLX and NRX rep sample/dealer demo may be worth it for slightly more. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 I really like the GLX and own a few. I have owned several IMX, but consider the St. Croix Avid a better value at the pricing point. 2 Quote

RW, the older GLX rods are great rods but I believe the OP is talking about the newer GLX rods with the split grips. I would rank the Loomis in terms of performance as: NRX, older GLX, newer GLX, Older IMX, ... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 Okay, mine are all older without split grips. On the St. Croix side I have upgrade over the years to the older Legend Elite, but my recollection of the Avids I owned were on par with the G. Loomis IMX. Quote
KP Duty Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Considering the lifetime replacement...why not have a glx for the rest of yout life? Go for it dude. ..glxs are serious rods. Be that guy Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 I think that is a fair assessment of the Avid vs IMX - (for price and warranty I would give the nod to the Avid) 1 Quote

The split grip GLX CBR is the best crankbait rod I have ever used. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted April 16, 2016 Super User Posted April 16, 2016 G.Loomis GLX: MBR842C, MBR844C, OR844C, PR844S, BCR854 and BCR893 St. Croix Avid AVC66MF Legend Elite: LEC70MHF and LES70MF I like them all, but have you considered a custom build? I have two built on Batson Rainshadow blanks, one built by Mr. Batson, the other by our very own ghoti. The ultimate Senko rod built by Mike at DVT and a custom Lamiglas SR705R built by Alpster. 1 Quote
TxHawgs Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have the GLX, IMX and had Avids. If your talking about fishing bottom contact baits like u mentioned I would go with the GLX. Quote

curtis9 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 If you are considering the higher priced rod, I'd go ahead and get it. You'll always wonder how much better it is, and up selling the rod you bought at a loss and buying the more expensive rod. I've done it enough, that I think I've finally learned better Quote
