Oklahoma Mike Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Threw my first one of this season more than a month ago. It was a black/red Booyah pond magic spinner bait. Quote

Airman4754 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 If we can make it we fish New Years Day and I always throw a shaky head that day. Quote
Wbeadlescomb Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 A jig maybe? I don't even know and don't guess it matters. Might have been a slider grub on a 1/16th ounce jighead for crappie. Did catch a 5lb largemouth on 4lb test with that setup the first time I went out this year sometime in January Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 17, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 17, 2016 I don't even remember, first cast of the year was back on January 8th. Quote
adam lancia Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 It's very unlikely that it'll be anything other than a weightless fluke. Quote

evilcatfish Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Fishing season ends? Not sure how there can be a first cast when there isn't a last Quote

Not sure how there can be a first cast when there isn't a last If you live up by me unfortunately it does. The water gets a really dense matt up on top of it and try as I might I can't get a monster 2oz punch weight to get through that matt First bait tied on this year was a jerkbait. First fish came on said jerkbait within about 10 minutes. 1 Quote
thomas15 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Strike King Bitsy Bug jig 1/4 with NetBait Paca Chunk both in Green pumkin. I didn't go to catch anything rather just to cast a few and smoke a cigar (Rocky Patel Decade Robusto). Off the bank where I don't think there were any basses in attendance. I'm planning on launching the SS Minnow this weekend and will probably start off with a shaky head or swim Jig or a jerk bait. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted April 20, 2016 Super User Posted April 20, 2016 It was a black/blue Strike King Colorado blade spinnerbait and I caught two. But not on the first cast. One was 3.86 lb. I also caught one on a T-rigged craw. It was Jan 2. I keep a log so I can go back and check things like that. Although lately I've gotten lazy about the log. There hasn't been much to write about on my last 2 trips. Quote
