papagravey Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Hey guys I am infatuated with shimano jdm offerings and was wondering on which one should I get. I would be using it for chatterbaits mainly. Chatterbaits are my favorite lure and I use them most of the time so I would like the best reel possible. Thanks in advance and tight lines! Quote
Kidflex Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 That'll be a personal issue. Ones round the other low profile which you already know. Neither will disappoint. Either will be a great buy. Can't really go wrong Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 Personal preference, a Conquest is like a Rolls Royce, a Metanium is like a Lambo. Personally I would choose the Metanium. 4 Quote
NJSalt Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Metanium, not a question for me. Nothing against the conquest at all. Quote
Cgrinder Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 For chatterbaits I'd say Conquest 101. I like the low gear. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 The conquest is like a custom rod versus the same blank in a production rod. I have three conquests & three mets & the conquests just ooze quality over the mets. 5 Quote

IAY Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Both of the reels are very refined. Conquest is made out of aluminum with brass gear, so it is going to feel more rigid and powerful, while Metanium is certainly no slouch in power but feels a lot more nimble and easy to work with due to the light. I have 2 new Conquests, but I love my Metanium more. With everything being said, I would go for the conquest for this application. 1 Quote
Silas Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I would go with my Conquests also. Chatterbait is a kind of a "brutish tool" of a lure. Needs a powerful slow crank. Either my CQ50 or cQ100DC. Wouldn't waste a NRX on a Chatterbait either. I ALSO HAVE 2 Metaniums. I prefer them for the "finer" lures. Makes my NRX shine also my Megabass rods Strange I know but just me. Quote
EllisJuan Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Really tough call. They are definitely my two favorite reels I have owned. I think I would go with the Conquest for your application. Quote
DelcoSol Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have both. The conquest is something special. Easily the nicest reel i've used. Get a HG conquest Quote
Stingray23 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I LOVE my Metaniums. Wouldnt trade them for anything. I'm dying to get a new Conquest 100HG. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 16, 2016 Super User Posted April 16, 2016 See what I told you ? we´re even in which one. I really doesn´t matter which one you choose, if you get the Conquest you´ll find the reel to feel more "refined", the reel will feel "solid" and have that "buttery" feel as you turn the handle, while on the metanium you´ll feel the reel "light" and "racy" when you turn the handle, there´s a reason for that, different materials are used to make both reels. Now, if you want that solid and buttery feel in a low pro there´s one option too: Calais/Antares. ( I used to now a 100A and it was a true beauty but I sold it to get me a more "sporty" TDZ ). Quote
