First of all even though they call it the silver minnow down here most people use em in gold.

but my real question is "are you using any kind of trailer?"   Back in the day using pork rind was standard

but lots of guys use em plain, and lots with a trailer, if so what kind?

How do you like em?

A big time old bass bait that still works! We all tend to forget the old ones that were big back in the day. They all still catch fish and sometimes better because the bass have not seen them for along time. As for trailers the pork was big and still is. But I like to take a ribbon worm's tail as a trailer,Zoom swimmin chunks.

I used to fish them a lot through the weeds in Canada for pike. I tried various pork trailers but they all killed the action compared to a 4 inch grub. Where I was fishing them, the weed guard was essential.  Had to sharpen the heck out of the hooks though.

I thought about snipping the weed guard and some how adding a barb , maybe just by bending it . Then slide on a soft plastic and burying the hook like a Texas rig .

Split tail trailer.

i cut the weedguards off for open water and of course leave it on when around weeds/pads.

Zoom Swimming Chunk or sometimes I'll just slide a skirt over the hook!

Still throw the silver minnow, use the Zoom Twin Tail.

My biggest bass in a few years came on that lure (the one in my avatar), I used the gold one with a white body/chartruese tail grub as a trailer just slowly pulling it above some lily pad stems that hadn't reached surface yet.

I haven't used a Silver Minnow in years, but when I did, I dressed them with a white, split-tail, spinnerbait trailer.

I've used the skirt trailer and also the back end of a culprit worm.

They all worked.   Never did try it without a trailer, and I see most folks here don't either.

The people I know using it without a trailer are mostly inshore fisherman, so that may explain it.

Oh, and I agree that hook can be a pain to sharpen,  I do keep the weedguard on though
