espowell15 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I fish from the bank and have one bait casting combo and one spinning combo. What type of line should I use if I only have 2 rods and don't want to carry a lot of rods. Quote
Josh Smith Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 What cover, if any? Water clarity? Lure types? Josh Quote

JigMe Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 10lb braid for Spinning, and 30-40lb braid for BC. Use FC leader for clear water presentation. Quote
RB 77 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Best "all around" for bass fishing? For me, probably 10 lb. mono. I like Izorline. I do however use co-poly, braid and flouro as well. For all around price, ease of use, versatility my vote goes for good ol' reliable Monofilament. 2 Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 Berkley Trilene Big Game. 5 Quote

Haven't tried Big Game, though. Josh XT if you are going to go 6-8 lb test ( XL doesn´t work well where I fish ), for 10 lb or more Big Game. I know there are lines that perform very well ( like YoZuri Hybrid ), reason why I pick always XT or Big Game is because, you are not going to believe me, even though I live in one of the largest cities of the country there isn´t a true fishing tackle store so that´s what I can get easily. There´s a real tackle store in San Luis Potosí ( Curricanes.com ) but I leave that for other purchases and sometimes I order line but as like: "hey I need line now" , shipping costs are too high to just order a couple of spools from them. blckshirt98 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I'd run 15lb PowerPro. You can fish reaction baits tied direct to either reel, and fish finesse with a fluoro leader on your spinning setup. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 i'd either run braid on them both and add a leader of your choice when it calls for it OR trilene big game 1 Quote

anthonyfip Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I also only use one spinning and one casting and I currently am set up with 15# power pro on spinning (dia of 4# mono) and 12# sufix siege on my casting setup. Like someone else mentioned, the thin but strong braid allows for leader selection based on your needs. As for the casting setup, with a good drag system, 12# is all you need to land just about any freshwater fish! Quote

Tatsu is killer, but Hybrid is an awesome all around line. I run braid (cheaper in the long run) and use Yo-Zuri leaders anytime I'm fishing around rock (because it's almost indestructible). If you add line conditioner and take care of it well, it can act as a really good low-stretch, low-vis main line. Also, it's indestructible because it's made of indestructible. Quote
DBL000006 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Get yourself 2 Spools of Seaguar Red Label in 10lb and 15lb. Make sure you use cheap Mono for backing on both Reels. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 25, 2016 Super User Posted April 25, 2016 A quality mono. I use Trilene xl , xt and Big Game . 1 Quote
BassThumb Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 All-around: Yo Zuri Hybrid. 6 for spinning, and 10-12 for casting. Fluorocarbon: Seaguar Tatsu. 20 for casting. You can get more than one season out of Tatsu and it's no worse for wear. Braid: Daiwa Samurai. 15 for spinning. 30-55 for casting. Quote

That's a solid line and one of my favorite fluorocarbons. Probably my second favorite. However, it's not nearly as good as Tatsu, which is far more manageable and durable and a little more sensitive. Two seasons ago, I did a side-by-side jigging experiment comparing the two lines over the course of an entire season. I used 20 lb. Tatsu on a Dobyns 745 jigging rod, and 15 lb. Red Label on a Dobyns 744 jigging rod. Both have the same reel. The heavier line proved to be much more manageable, feeling more like mono than fluoro after a break in period. That's saying something. The Red Label also needed to be replaced halfway through the season because of how beat up it was getting. I proceeded to get another season and a half from the Tatsu, thus offsetting the cost difference of the two lines. Red Label is good line at a bargain price, you're right. I have a lot of it left over than I use for leaders. Quote

Thanks for this post and the replies. Lately I've gone back to my spinning gear and gotten addicted to the Ned rig with the TRD and small craws. Just ordered my first spool of 6# Hybrid to try. Quote
timsford Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I use hybrid too on baitcasting but on spinning I like trilene Xl because it is more limp. I fish a lot of open water though so with more cover I'd use hybrid and if there's a lot of weeds where you fish I'd recommend braid Quote

Still, I prefer using it as a leader with braid main line for most applications. The stuff is low vis and virtually indestructible. Quote
