Josh Smith Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 My wife says nobody else's husband does this. At the end of the day, I'll sometimes lay in bed and crank a fishing reel, or might change a handle laying down, or maybe arrange the tackle box. She says this isn't normal. Not in bed. She crochets in bed and I don't see the difference. Any of you all find tackle or reels or whatever relaxing bedtime fare? Josh 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 13, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 13, 2016 Can't say I have, but I've had some pretty vivid dreams of fishing, usually after a really good day on the water. I've scared my wife when I set the hook in my sleep more than once. It didn't just recently start though, there was a hole in the wall by my bed at my parents house from a particularly vicious sleeping hook set. 11 Quote

X2 My wife often complains about getting thumped as I set the hook on a monster in my dreams. 1 Quote
flyingmonkie Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Much more relaxing than crochet, that's for sure. I don't take my gear into bed, but I do practice flipping on the back porch while the kids play. I've also been known to take my reels to work and clean them during meetings and conference calls. 2 Quote
RichF Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I've fallen asleep on the couch with a rod and reel in my hand. My girlfriend has pictures to prove it. Does that count? Lol 1 Quote

Fish the Mitt Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 My gear never makes it's way upstairs to the bedroom (my fishing gear that is [Sickos]). However, my pre-bed ritual is BR/Navionics/Youtube (in no specific order). She'll sometimes get annoyed at that but I ignore it... Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted April 13, 2016 Super User Posted April 13, 2016 I have a recurring dream that bass and trout swim through the ground like it's water. So I'll just be fishing a frog in the mulch in my yard and one will explode out of it and eat the frog. 3 Quote
tander Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Never done that in bed, might leave a treble hook in there !! Quote

Mugs Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 No, Your wife is right.. You're a strange one indeed... Quote
Super User Gundog Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 I'm not a professional but I play one on tv. As far as you being crazy its not an easy diagnosis. You must answer a few questions first. Do you sometime grab your dog by the lower lip? When talking to friends do you refer to your significant other as a "keeper"? When you had your first child where you glad he/she was over 15 inches long? Did you change your middle name to Johnson/Mercury/Evinrude? Please answer all of these questions honestly and remember I charge $200 dollars an hour for my quasi-professional diagnosis of any mental illnesses. 3 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 It's no different than flipping through a BPS or Cabela's catalog before going to bed. I also sometimes take a casting reel with no line spooled and will reel it in and flick the spool on free spool and watch it spin. I'll also get a bag (or a few) of plastics and look at them and squeeze them through the package. Don't judge me!!! Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 Haven't done that but I have fishing dreams occasionally. In one of them I catch bass out of my yard, but only at my childhood home. The weirdest one was catching a 5 pound bream off the top of the buckman bridge over the st johns river. ( Its probably 200 feet high at the crest.) 1 Quote
lecisnith Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I have pantomimed my jerkbait and walk-the-dog technique in bed. But that's only on special occasions. 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 There is one lake we fish with stunted smallies and it's 100 fish days no matter the weather, time of day, etc. That night when I come home my wife tells me I will do hook setting jerks in bed for hours while I'm sleeping lol. Quote
RB 77 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I don't know about bed, but I have turned the handle on a brand new reel a couple times while laying on the couch watching t.v. Haha. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 Yes I've done that and get the same reaction sometimes. You're not alone. Quote
Red Bear Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 glad to see im not the only one who does hook sets in their sleep while dreaming. woke myself up during one once and caught myself cranking in on an imaginary reel too lol Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 I don't know if it's weird but it does put a different meaning to "Hook one, pearl two." 1 Quote
avidone1 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Nope. Not in bed. I actually like to read in bed. Now I will spend all evening tinkering with fishy stuff before bed. but so long as you don't tinker with hooks in bed, then I see no harm. Quote

Freak78 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I've never brought a reel or tackle to bed, but I will look shop for tackle, read reviews and watch fishing videos in bed. Quote
kjfishman Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Leaving hooks in your bed could lead to injuries! Quote
