Kevin22 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Throw a 1/16 or 1/24 rooster tail spinner until you find the fish, then slow down and fish them with your favorite live or artificial bait. Trout love to hide under and around wood, and love to run rock shorelines looking for food. Generally speaking they are almost always within 15' of shore until they get established. Once they are established they will be wherever the food is. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 13, 2016 Super User Posted April 13, 2016 Stocked trout have been feed nothing but "trout" chow ever since they were born and are not used to feeding on moving baits. A ball of Berkley PowerBait for trout on a hook under a float will work as well or better than anything. Quote

I agree with this also have found corn tiny minnows night crawlers maggots and tiny marshmellows (color kind works better for me). I fish these on same rigs I use for panfish ultra light 4lb test and either tight line on bottom or use a bobber. I also really love using inline spinners and the strike mini cranks after a week or two of being stocked. I have found that instinct takes over on the ones left after the week or two after stocking even though they was raised on a fish farm they will eventually relize that there won't be no timed feeding and they will start find other food Quote

You can teach them to eat pellets but you cannot teach them to not follow their instincts. Ever catch a bass on a sexy shad or gizzard shad crankbait in a spot where there are no shad? Instincts. Here in the streams in NE Iowa it takes about 5 minutes after stocking for the trout to slam spinners. Quote
avidone1 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I used to have a lot of fun with stocked trout back on L.I. years ago. I would go to the park with some small hooks and tie on bits of worm or little cheese balls, corn was good too, right from the can. I would also throw little trout size (tiny) plugs like tiny rebels etc. and of course small spinners. After awhile I started using fly gear. Nymphs would slay em. It's a lot of fun and a great way to get the bug. Quote
