I was starting out throwing the topwater yesterday near the bridge and on one squirrelly cast i threw it a little too far right into the rip rap on the bank.  as it started coming back i knew something wasn't right about it.  well what had happened was.....  the back just broke straight off.  I guess my question here is do i just chalk this up as part of the game or should i try to contact Megabass to see if by chance they'd replace it.  i mean i know they're not designed to pop the dog on the rip rap, but it didn't hit all that hard from my judgement...  of course had to be my favorite walking bait in my favorite color!!

just curious what the group thinks?

oh for sure Raul, i just didn't know if that was kind of "wrong" of me to even assume they might have any "liability".  i mean it really wasn't a hard hit at all, but obviously it hit it either hard enough or just right for it to break off there like that. just never had something like that happen so i wasn't sure how to proceed.

regardless, i'll have to get another one, i love that bait and now i'm down to just the black one (orochi i think is what it's called).  seriously might be the easiest bait to walk the dog on!

Turd sometimes happens, I broke the lip of one of my favorite ( and a really serious fish catcher ) cranks, a chartreuse shad Storm Thunder Crank while casting at the rock covered dam of my everyday lake :crying-baby-2:. I should say there was no problem since I have a backup but you are not going to believe me, it catches fish but nowhere near in numbers or quality as the other one.

I just watched a video yesterday where KVD was talking about SB crankbaits. He said back in the early 2000's they would buy cranks by the 100, per color. He said 1 or 2 out of 100 would have an erratic action, those they would keep and then sell the rest. That might have been the case with your bait!

I knew that before KVD became "THE" KVD. I have a "panic" box ( just to give it an understandable name since I never panic ;) ) with my "special" cranks, those that catch fish when other "identical" cranks don´t.

so i submitted an email on their site and within an hour someone had responded to me!  basically stated they have no official policy on returns, but they review them case by case and if i wanted to send it to them they'd check it out.  so i suppose i will and just see what they say.  like raul said, worst they can say is no right?

honestly, i was just impressed with how quickly they responded.  if they do anything about the bait, it will surpass all expectations...

Might as well! Strike king does it the same way (case by case). When the series 6 came out i hurried out and bought one. First time out it got SMASHED and when i set the hook the line went slack. I said a few choice words, mainly damninng the "pike" that just took my new bait. When i reeled it in i had the bill of a series 6 and nothing else. I sent an email to SK with the picture of a bill tied on my line and got a response almost immediately. They sent me 3 new series 6 and a red hat, along with a hand written apology from someone, i dont remember who. I still wonder what that was that hit me. Probably a catfish.

I threw a square bill too far and it hit some rocks.  The bill shattered on impact.  I emailed Strike King trying to buy a replacement bill, they asked for my address to send me a replacement bait.  When I got the package inside was 3 baits, a catalog and a hat.

Megabass baits have a reputation of being fragile. It's the plastic that they use that also gives them the unique action that everyone seems to love so much.

I've broken every Megabass I've ever owned and none of them were broken doing something that would break a cheaper bait. I haven't bought a MB for a long time because of it until just last week when I bought 2 Trick Darters, but I got those for half price so it won't hurt as bad when (not if), they break.

I hope they send you a new bait, that white python is just a wicked looking color.

no joke clayton, that white python is a great color.  i have a pop x in the same color and that thing is a fish catcher at one of the local ponds here.  there's something about the action on that giant dog x...  it may very well be the easiest lure to walk the dog that i've ever tried, almost effortless.  i have the same lure in black orochi and it's a great bait for nighttime!

even if they don't replace it themselves, i'm sure to end up with another one of them in the white python because it's just that good for me...  i have to say, they were on top of it once i sent them a message on their website!

There's no way they're going to replace or "warranty" that fwiw.

Still...  I'd just buy another one.  Gotta do our part to sustain populations of the rare and endangered white pythons, right?  Nature first.  Always.

i'll see what they say, but i'll keep my hopes low!  and like i said, there will be another in the box here soon one way or the other...

That's awesome, they haven't done anything for me. I have several hundred SK hardbaits, and recently bought one that the rattle wouldn't work in. I have maybe 3 total out of all of them that don't rattle, so I sent a cpl emails and never got a response.

Keep trying. I've seen lots of guys get their baits replaced plus some from Strike King.

Just had to come back here to give them some props!!  Got an email from MB that they've shipped me a brand spanking new Giant Dog X in that beautiful White Python that i love so dearly!  They agreed that under normal conditions it should not have cracked, let alone shear off the whole end of the bait like that.  They were phenomenal in their rapid response and resolution.

Seems small to many i'm sure, but it really made my week!

I bought about 3 or 4 MBs to try and after reading this thread I cannot wait since everyone seems to like them so much. I have three POP MAX and one Ito Vision 110 FX tour premium.

Megabass are beautiful baits and they do catch fish, my favorites are the Bait X Concept and the Griffon.

If you're honest and upfront about how you smashed your nice bait against some rocks, they MIGHT take pity.  But really, do you think it's Megabass's fault?

Oh I believe you alright! I don't know what it is, but some baits just flat out catch fish  better than others of the same make, color, etc. The only thing I can contribute it to is that some just have that "Mojo" that others don't...

no i don't think it's their fault, per my original post, it's why i came here and posed the question.  however, i also don't think that such a quality bait would have popped like that with the little amount of force that was required to do so.  crack maybe, but literally just pop the back off like that, no.  i've no doubt that a big feisty fish could have exerted more force than this situation.  i told them exactly what i posted here which was that i threw it into the rocks, not their fault, but that i didn't imagine it would resulted in the bait coming apart like that.  perhaps they did take pity, i was just following up on my initial post and sharing my positive outcome of the situation.

I've had a few baits break on bad casts that left me scratching my head as to why. Then you smash a bait on a bridge abutment, and nothing happens. Why, man, why?!?
