lmiller157 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Hello all, what is your preference for chatterbait colors? Spinnerbaits I can almost always get away with using a white or white and chartruce . is it the same for chatters? 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Green pumpkin variant White Black/Blue or Black/Red I throw the Green Pumpkin variant more often than not. 3 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Sexy Shad is my top choice, then something like baby bass where there's green mixed with some lighter highlights, and then black/blue. 1 Quote
XzyluM Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Green pumpkin and chartreuse has been my most productive color lately, but I carry a lot of the usual jig colors. 1 Quote

Brikon Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 You can't go wrong with Green Pumpkin, Black/Blue and White. As a trailer use a Craw creature or a paddle tail fluke 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 11, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 11, 2016 Green pumpkin, black and blue, bluegill colors, and sexy shad would get you through most days. I carry a lot of colors though and have a few that regularly outproduce those colors that everybody carries. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 I have been having good luck with white so far this spring. That is about the only color I have been throwing. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Natural, forage colors in clear water, loud colors in low vis situations. But I do that for most lures. I find size and profile more important than color most times. I don't like fishing chatters, but sometimes they are on fire, and I never argue with fish. Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Green pumpkin/bluegill is my best producer year round. I also do well with white in the spring. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Very interesting to me. I have several color combinations, but white seems to be the ticket. I'm using a white Rage Tail Structure Bug for the trailer rigged vertically rather than horizontal. Quote
Hurricane Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Black/Blue with a Black Blade has done well for me so far this year.. Quote
UKCATSBASSER Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 White for me as well and green pumpkin. I like to use a smimn sinko trailer Quote
tander Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If I had to pick one color it would be chart./white. I throw this color 90% of the time. 1 Quote
lmiller157 Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks for the input! i will grab some green pumpkin and white tonight. I guess White works with dang near every bait! Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Ok, there´s white, chartreuse and just to be sure you got the exact right one white & chartreuse. 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Has anyone had any luck with a red/bright orange/crawfish chatterbait color? I have one I tried throwing for a bit last year but that thing just did not draw any strikes! Quote
Kevin22 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 My list... GP for clearer waters (color blade black with sharpie) Black/Blue for dirty water (color blade with sharpie) White when they are on shad Quote
Scarborough817 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 anything that imitates bait fish or black and blue for stained water Quote
primetime Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I use a dark top usually a black or smoke with various flake, and a light belly color...White silver belly, chart or orange...sometimes green pumpkin or brown top and chart or gold on bottom... I carry lots of skirts to change them up, I find that it is hard to beat a sexy shad pattern most days...Smoke on top, chart in middle, and pearl on bottom, and if I want to make it more like a bluegill I will simply swap out a skirt that has some black with green flake, some purple, and a mix of orange and watermelon/chart...I like to play around with skirts but I find a black, smoke, or green pumpkin top with a lighter color to match forage works best for me.. Most baitfish have dark backs in florida, and we have stained water so I like to add some flash to all my skirts, and even when I want a craw color most craws down here are brown/gold/red color, some have chart highlights or a yellow hue, but usually for chatterbaits I am trying to mimic a baitfish....I feel I can often get away with any color skirt and a chartruese single tail gyb grub, or a smoke color with various flake single tail grub...I rarely use boot tail swimbaits anymore when I have a bladed jig, I feel it is too much thump at least for me. A 4" ribbon tail worm is a dynamite trailer as well, just clip a worm in half, or buy a 4" brand but lately that is one of my new favorite trailers... I rarely use black and blue anymore, I seem to do better with a black and chart pattern, I actually prefer flashy skirts in most water, if clear I go without flake and stick to natural colors. I try to match my skirts to my favorite crank bait/jerkbait colors...Thicker skirts sometimes work better, sometimes a thin strand skirt, but I have a system I use and usually I end up with a green pumpkin/chart or black/chart pattern on my line.... IowaHusker28 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I've usually also only throw 3 colors. Black n blue, green pumpkin, and white. I have gotten a little adventurous when it comes to the Picasso "bladed jigs" because they have some cool colors that really look like a bluegill. I also either throw a Keitech or strike king caffeine shad paddle tail in a matching color. On the river or where there is a lot of grass for whatever reason I like throwing a green/white or green with red sparkle trailer. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 A couple of my different colors that have been proven fish catching colors. The all blue is just deadly around here. 1 Quote
