EllisJuan Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I have been an avid bass fisherman for many many years. In the past I have owned simple 14 Jon Boats and fished mostly neighborhood has restricted lakes. I recently moved to the Memphis area and there are some larger fisheries I would like to fish and am currently boatless. I am thinking of selling my 2004 GTO and using the money to buy an aluminium bass boat. I would be looking at a budget of around $8000. I am thinking of something like a mid-2000s Tracker PT175. I know his is a very popular boat. Is there anything I should be looking out for? Is that budget realistic? This is a much larger boat purchase than I have ever thought about making. Are there other models I should be looking at? 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 10, 2016 Super User Posted April 10, 2016 $8k should get you a 17ft aluminum boat year 2008 or earlier with a 90hp motor. More than likely the electronics and trolling motor will be from that same year. 1 Quote

I was very fortunate in that it worked out and the boat is on order. I also went with an aluminum hull (Lund). Good Luck A-Jay 3 Quote

RyneB Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I sold my 2004 GTO to buy a Ranger. I still miss that car, but used the Ranger to trade in on a brand new Skeeter 2 Quote

Makes 418 to the wheels. Quote
RyneB Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I had black on black. I went forced induction with a blower cam. I didn't do any work on the heads. Did the headers an exhaust and some suspension stuff. Then sold it Quote
EllisJuan Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks for the encouragement fellas. I am pretty determined to get the ball rolling on this sooner than later. I would really like a PT190, but I am not sure that is going to be in the budget ($10k). I am also not sure if it would fit in my garage. Does anyone know how long a trailered PT175 and PT190 are with the fold away tongue folded in? Ideally I would like to be able to store it with the transom saver in place. My garage is 22'x12'. Also, I plan on towing it with my 2004 V6 2wd Explorer. It came with a class 2 hitch rated at 3500lbs and 350lbs tongue weight. Would that be OK to tow a PT175 or PT190? Quote
Super User Further North Posted April 14, 2016 Super User Posted April 14, 2016 I know a guy selling a '68 Chevelle big block to fund a new boat...he's going for a bigger boat though... A few years back, I sold an Austin Healey and an Arrieta shotgun to pay for a boat... Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do... Quote
EllisJuan Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Welp, the GTO is gone as of an hour ago... I have a line on a nice 2006 Pro Team 175 TX with a Merc 60hp 4 stroke. The boat only has 75 hours on it and come with a HDS 7 Touch HDI at the console, a Elite 7 at the bow, Mercmonitor, and a Motorguide 80# Xi5. Quote
Super User Further North Posted April 28, 2016 Super User Posted April 28, 2016 Congrats! ...my guy is still trying to sell his Chevelle... Quote

Friday, I am meeting the seller at a lake in Arkansas halfway between where we live...about 3hrs each. If it appears and performs as described I will be pulling it home to Tennessee. Does anyone know what the tax rate is for boats in Tennessee? Quote

Josh_Bovaird Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I was in this same dilemma to, for your price range you should see if you can find a triton magnum. They are so much of a nicer boat than the trackers. I paid 8500 for my 03 176 with a 115 on the back. 2 Quote

I have looked at alot of boats...a few Tritons, a couple Crestviews, a Lowe, etc. The Triton's are a very solid boat. I really feel like the Trackers with the Revolution All-welded hulls are good boats for the most parts. I am sure I will be jealous of that 115 though. Quote
