Hey, I recently purchased a CurAdo 200e7 from eBay and it seems pretty old and heavly used, also makes an unusual noise which I believe (and hope) is just the spool hitting the main frame which isn't a big deal to me. It seems heavly used should I keep it and use it for frogging, flipping, casting smaller umbrella rigs or return to the buyer and get a Citica. Just not sure how long that old Curado has left, and the new CurAdo i's are horrible. Have heard good things of the Citica. (By the way the Curado 200e6 was $195.) is that Too much for an old dirty reel? cleaned her out she seems ok but the casting noise. Is it just me or Should I be worried how long this reel has to last

Thanks!

Curado I's are horrible?  News to me.  $195 is a lot for an old and heavily used reel that makes unusual noises  and is an old and dirty reel.   New in box, well maybe a fair price.

If you think the curado I is horrible why would you consider getting a new citica? It's the same reel.

I would Have the reel deep cleaned by a well respected shop and then revisit any noise if there are any still there. I would also replace any parts that show wear while the reel is broken down, again if there are any that need it. 195 was too much money for that reel. I'll bet you can find a chronarch e unused somewhere online for less than that. That's where I would have been looking for that price. The curado I is a good reel. A great one. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Either way, service your reel and I'll bet you'll do be good to go.

Would you say return it? Don't know too many local reel places seems like a lot to go into this reel...

I've heard the Citicas are better. Went through 2 Curado I's and experienced problems as well known others who had the same problems.

If you can return it, I personally would. I would rather spend less on a curado I. Or even less for a chronarch e. The chronarchs are out there if you are shopping online. If you cannot return it, send it to a well respected shop such as DVT ( here on this site) as an example...or one locally... Then have them deep clean it and check parts for wear.  I own curado b, bsf, g, e and I series reels and have never needed to replace any parts. Ever. But if you are going to keep it, there are still parts available if they need to be replaced. If you have time to wait for the reel, you can even send it to shimano for cleaning if need be. It will probably come back as good as new.

Also, breaking those reels down completely and deep cleaning should be done annually for any reel you want to last a long time. It's not a lot, it's part of its regular maintainence.

The noise could be a number of things. Unles you are more clear on your diagnosis, I cannot help you much further.

I would return it if possible unless you are proficient in reel mechanics.

195$ is ridiculously high for a used Curado E in "pretty old and heavily used" condition.

The Curado e7 will last a lifetime if properly maintained.

The new Curado I's aren't horrible and the new Citica isn't better. It's essentially the same reel. Whoever told you that the Citica was a better reel would not a person I would have working on your reels. He's a fool.

They have gone up in price on eBay. I saw one at a local Tuppens here in lake worth fl. for 199 last week. New in box.

Sounds good, I'd be interested on the gear ratio and right/left hand

Really 300?  For a Chronarch E?  Really?  Crazy maybe I should buy those Chronarch Es.  As for Curado I horrible, first I heard that.  Any case send it back and get a refund, I wouldn't buy another product from the seller.

Yeah, and those Chronarchs are expensive if you want them NIB.

$195?!. way too much.  stay off ebay for shimano stuff look at forums and such. usually guys sell the E's for $120-150....and i have yet to have an issue with my curado I going on 3 years with it.  the Chronarch E's are still out there. my local shop still carries em for $199

I've never seen them Chronarch E that high.  If I can truly get double, I should pick the ones up locally 3 of them nib for 115 each.

Return the reel. You paid way too much and it sounds like junk. We have "gently used" come up often in our Flea Market. The price should be $125-$150 for gently used (9/10) or $150-$175 NIB.

I'm late here but I'll chime in anyway.

1st, return that reel. You paid way too much for that reel unless it's in outstanding condition.

2nd, I haven't seen anyone else say this yet, but your problems with a Curado I... I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and guess that your were getting a lot of noise while casting? The only people I've talked to that have had problems, they stem from noise. That's an easy one to fix and the reels even come with a little pamphlet telling you to oil the brake drum once in awhile. If this was your problem, get a Curado I. It's not actually a problem. Or get a Citica... I own both. They're identical in performance. If that wasn't your problem, tell us what it was. Excellent resources on this site.

Good luck.

$195 is what I would expect to pay for one new in box. Also in my opinion the "I" is the best curado yet. I would send it back if you can.

This one was suppose to be 9/10. They still have them NIB? Not sure how to get to the reels for sale on here I'm kinda new.

I've had the Curado I's, not a big fan of them. I'm gonna return this reel and probably keep searching for something like a Chronarch 200e7. Thanks

Have you had this problem with the I's then, but it's easily fixable? Had I's do a similar thing before but it was a loud grinding at the end of the cast, this seems to be the spool wearing into the frame

I have several Curado E's and I didn't spend  $195 for any of them.  My local shop is out of Curado E's - probably forever.  I don't despair though.  My local shot still has several Chronarch 50 reels - nib - and those cost less than $195.   I recently got one of those Curado 70 size reel and I like it, although I've only fished with it once.  It didn't cost $195.

The reel I got was used. It was dirty when I got it, cleaned it out free spools well and seems ok but the grind ish noise on the cast. It's not too bad of a grind. Just not sure how much life the reel has left

Those are sort of dated prices. A years or so ago that would have been the norm. For some reason or another the last 6 months have told a different tale. Norma used reels are fetching $125 -150. Reels close to mint or mint are getting $150-175 and NIB are becoming extremely rare. When they pop up they are getting well over $180 with most close to $200+. If it happens to be a 50 sized they seem to draw even more.

Prices have gone up lately on the Cruado 200E series.  I see on another forum where 2 different ads were asking $180 for reels in excellent condition.  One guy had 5 and now has only one left and the price has dropped to $150.  To me that is a more realistic price.  I paid $140 about a year/year-and-a-half ago for one in excellent condition.  Love that reel, but I am not willing to pay $180 for another....much less $195.  Too many other excellent reel options out there for less money.  Paid about $104 for my last 2 Primmus reels.  They cast as far as my 201E7 and I feel they are a bit smoother on the retrieve.  If I were looking at a $195 201E7, I rather get another Helios Air.  Last one cost less than that, and is another reel that casts as far as the E7 and is at least as smooth on the retrieve.

I'd definitely return that reel and look at getting something else.

Just saw a NIB Shimano scorpion 1500xt on eBay from a seller with a 98.7 rating, for $169.00 + $20.00 shipping. That scorpion is identical to the e series Chronarch. I have one and love it. I also have 2 Chronarchs. I ordered the Scorpion when I couldn't find any more new Chronarchs.
