Yes. Used it last year.

Caught a few. Fun watching them hit it and miss it.

just another tool

It's popular out here on the west coast.  Really easy to use topwater lure, just cast and retrieve, and you can cast it a mile.  Worth adding especially if you feel lazy and don't feel like actively working a topwater.

I just ordered two size 130 in bone and loon colors since I had a gift card from Christmas. They seem to be a great tool to have in your bag and a lot of people tend to have success with them.

any whopper plopper fans?. is it worth adding to ones topwater arsenal?. just ordered myself a 90 size in Chubby color

I found that the 90 is easily submerged in choppy water.  The 130 stays on top better and makes a lot more commotion.

I  like them, but do yourself a favor and get the 130. It's a much better bait than the 90 IMO.

Two baits in one, buzzbait and a walking bait. Hence u don't actually walk it but it floats like a walking bait. So u can fish it like a buzzbait and then stop it and let it sit. Excellent bait IMO, I usually buy a white/bone, black and a natural colored one matching the forage in your lake. Unless your lake is always stained to muddy than ditch the natural colored one.

I've read that the O-rings and hooks should be replaced. Does anybody know if that is true of the 130, or just the 90?

I have used the 130. The hooks were sticky sharp and the rings appeared solid. If you are chasing musky or big pike I would ABSOLUTELY change them out to XXS hooks and XS rings, but the stock are just fine for bass.

What colors are you all recommending for clear water?

Natural (perch, sexy shad, or rat-tat-tat) for cloudy days, and clear for sunny days. I think they call their clear "phantom" or something like that.

Thanks Kevin. And for the record I thought joining this website was going to be a good thing but really it just makes me realize the lures I need to buy ;)

They are good baits for sure.  Def like the 130 size over the 90.  It is the type of bait that you want to make a big disturbance with and it attracts the big ones.  I have the loon color and have been catching some lately on it.  Decent ripple on the water and overcast doesnt hurt.  Bass here right now are in all phases of spawn and it seems to make them mad.

I don't think it really matters but FWIW I use the Shad 130 for smallies in water with consistent 5+ feet of visibility.

So if I already have a 130 and the big one for Musky, is it worth it to get the smaller  one for calmer days and the overall smaller size of WI bass? I know small fish will hit a bigger lure, but that isn't a numbers game, also some times of the year the smaller size would match the forage better. Or just stick with what I have and spend my money on something else? Really haven't read from anyone that the 90 sticks at least some fish, just the downfalls of the bait.

Speaking from experience with WI and MN use with wopper ploppers... If there is a pike within 100 yards of you, he is going to hit it. The 90 is going to get snipped in a second. The 90 doesn't really make sense to me honestly. The wopper plopper is a BIG FISH BAIT. The 130 is a big fish size. The 90 is a "numbers" size in a big fish bait. If numbers is the target then a spook or buzzbait is the bait of choice.

Got one in MTB March box and first cast I suspended the plopper over a branch and boom a bass. This bait is so versiatle and it is like buying a 3 in one bait. You can work the bait like a spook, buzzbait, and popper. From past expirences with other poppers this bait gives an easy to use popping nosie that is amazing. When you pop the plopper it sounds like you are cupping your hands and clapping them together. The MTB gave a 90 version and I had such a great expirence with this bait I have already ordered the 130 version.
