My main pitching rods for plastics are an 843 GLX and 7' MHXF Avid.  When I switch from one to the other my accuracy is horrible.  Either I pitch high or low.   It takes a couple pitches to adjust.  Obviously, this is a problem and it takes away from my efficiency.  Anybody else have this problem?   I am guessing it is because of the rod actions.  Thanks for any insight.

If you can adjust in a couple of pitches you are better than average! Make your first couple to the outer edge. An extra couple of dozen pitches over the course of the day don't mean a thing, unless you're on the clock and fishing for the truck payment. Then it's more urgent, but relaxing and enjoying the process makes everything work better.

And yes, a different action will change how the rod loads and make a difference in trajectory and accuracy. It is the reason many pros will have several identical combos on deck at times. They can change baits with little or no adjustment.

So this is common?  I've never heard anyone else complain about it.  It makes perfect sense.

My problem with efficiency is that I'll often use my 2nd pitching combo when I come up to a piece of structure and I've made a half dozen or so pitches with my primary plastic and then  I want to give it another look before leaving.  The first pitch is 6' up in the air and the bait falls 4' short from where I want it.  LOL- I am not fishing for a truck but it is annoying.  Thanks.

It sounds more like a reel adjustment than rod. If you swap reels, are the results the same? The rod does make a difference, but the way the reel is set and line used will make a huge difference when pitching.

I haven't done that controlled of a comparison.  I am using the same line and I have generally the reels set up the same way.  I'll have to play around with it more.  Thanks.

I feel like my biggest issue is trying to change rod length when pitching. Like going from a 7'3" rod to a 6'9" or opposite. BUt I feel like a few attempts in and im back to the hang of things. BUt those first few can be brutal

Just as I suspected, it was the action of the rod that was causing my problem.  Since I posted this thread I picked up a Dobyns Champion 703 which is a 7' MH fast action just like my 843 GLX (the other rod was a 7' MH extra fast).  This past Saturday I was pitching both of them and had no issues with accuracy switching from one rod to the other.  The problem wasn't my pitching technique.

For me, when I pitch or cast I have a sensation whenever I pick up a rod. I can feel what's going to put the bait exactly where I want in the milliseconds between loading the rod and throwing the bait. It's almost like a reflex. It's weird, but I've never had trouble switching from totally different rods.
