Getting ready to try this technique. Was checking out some of the jig heads and worms on different websites. Seems like there are a lot to choose from. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like the spot remover with the spike when using trick worms, but the screw type for Zman worms.

Put a piece of plastic on a jig head, preferably a stand-up head and let it sink to the bottom.

Not trying to be flip, but it doesn't get much easier.  There's a couple recent threads that offer to complicate the issue, but it doesn't need to be hard.

just this week.....

I like the VMC Rugby heads. Best "all purpose" head I have found. Works equally well in rock, grass, wood, around boat docks, etc............

Some heads designed for fishing in rock. suck in grass..............some heads designed to fish in grass suck in rock.

Being able to texas rig baits on the Rugby Head is a huge plus IMHO...............I have never been a fan of screw locks, pegs, giant barbs etc....

If the conditions are right for a shaky head jig, the Ned rig will work even better.  The Ned rig is similar to the shaky head, but it catches way more fish and just as big (or bigger) bass.

I fish mostly steep canyon lakes and most heads just won't stay standing up. The best I've found are the Megastrike shaky heads.

We catch a ton of all three species on them year round. As for technique find what works for you but I drag mine on a tight line and keep my rod twitching very slightly the whole time.

They're really hard to screw up on. Just fish and figure it out.

Yeah I fish the ned also.Love this bait! Question is though does anyone have trouble with the thin hooks on the shroomz jig heads? I've lost some nice fish due to the hook not penetrating good. Just wondering if the hook on a stand up shaky head would be better?

I haven't had any issues with the hooks on the shroomzs, but if your using over ten pound line our anything stiffer than a medium power rod, that is most likely the problem.  if you find a shaky head jig with a small enough hook it might work, but shaky heads usually have much to large of hooks.

Ok thanks for the info. I'm using a 6'6ML with 6 pound Sufix mono. Don't like the flourocarben. For my ned rig I'm using the hula stickz. Still think the hook on the shakey head hook  is too big for that?

I'm really surprised the hook bent out with that set up.  With the hula stickz you can get away with using a slightly larger hook, but the smaller the hook the better the action.  I wouldn't go over a size 1 hook, but I have only been fishing the Ned rig for a couple years so I don't know that much about it.  Try messaging team 9, garderjigman, or blue basser about what size of hook to use, and they might have a good brand to recommend.  They are experts on all things Midwest finesse, one of them is even part of infishermans finesse news network and occasionally writes reports and articles for them.

I like the MegaStrike stand-up head and the Picasso tungsten ball head. Both with screw locks and a drop of glue.

i too like spot removers. I don't like the screw lock ones for Zman worms though. I find elaztech to hard to thread on to a screw lock head.

My favorite head is the BOSS Brent Ehrler shaky head. It has a wider hook gap which I prefer. I usually use a 7" straight tail worm my favorite is the netbait T-Mac, but don't overlook using small creature and craw lures.

I gave shakey head fishing a shot today. Although I didn't catch anything on it yet, I like the technique. I used the zman finesse worm and what I think are Nichols shakey head. The hook has a curve to it. It was some I got in a mtb box months ago. Anyway I hate ttrying to screw on the zman worms. Even tried to heat it up with a lighter. But I really like the shakey head design. Just need it with a different keeper style better for zman plastics

If your talking about the worm Absolutely! If your talking about the head and worm you rig it basically like a Texas rig.
