Avalonjohn44 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It looks like once you get it going, that thing is going to have some cool action. Where can I send my check? Quote
TheBeast Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Very nice, wish I had the time to put into a project like that but any free time now is spent on the water using the baits I have, maybe this winter. And where do I send the check for one painted in a bluegill pattern, and Burley will have to have one as well. ;D Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 10, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2008 this one is for personal use. im gonna get some balsa wood from the store tomorrow and then that will greatly speed up the process because it is very quick and easy to shape. once i can speed up the process i might sell them. it takes a lot of work to make them though so i dont know what the price would be. anyway, thanks for all the great compliments guys. im epoxying the halves together right now Quote
Evan Pease Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 That looks killer. What color do you plan on making it. Quote

MattStrykul Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah but that is a custom paintjob I believe. I may be wrong...probably am Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 10, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2008 yes that is a custom painted lucky craft but no its not mine i did not paint it. i just grabbed it off google images cuz i like it. here is what i came up with. i know its sloppy because i was experimenting with colors. im gonna use this piantjob but it will be much neater when its on the lure: Quote
snephew Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 looking good... cant wait to see it completed... Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 11, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 11, 2008 well here is the paint. i still have to paint the head, the inside of the joints, and the entire back side :-/. turned out a little bit darker than i would have liked :-[ but i am pleased that i didnt make it look totally rediculous. i call it: midnight shad Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Looking good. Judging from the number of inquiries you already have, it sounds like you need to go ahead and set up a production line. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 the bait's comin along nice dave! have you thought about maybe putting a small lip on it to drop the head a little? i'd have to imagine a small lip would dig the head in a little deeper when you're crankin it, creating more of a wake and maybe even more action? Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 11, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 11, 2008 have the second half painted now, all i have left to do is paint the joints, head, and epoxy the whole thing! Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 12, 2008 Super User Posted July 12, 2008 Dave, it might be better if you paint the lure before connecting the joints next time. It might just be me but I had a hard time panting in between joints. Quote
Ifish4keeps Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 looks great! thats a great color pattern and cant wait to see the finished product and i hope you catch some lunkers on it Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 12, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2008 hookem, i didnt have any problems painting. the reason i paited after i put them together was because i used the vise to press the pieces together after i glued them, and i didnt wanna scratch my paint with the vise. well i got all the paint done. i wanted 3-D eyes but didnt have any so it was time to improvise! i painted a black dot on a piece of aluminum foil and then put a blob of hot glue over it. when the hot glue cooled, it hazed over, which was neat because now it is reflective and hazy, just like a real fish eye. i am pleased with the results tomorrow morning it gets epoxy! Ifish4keeps Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 that looks awesome! if you are going to make any more a suggestion would be to put fins and a tail on it like hookemdowns swimbait and it would be perfect, but the paint job looks great and after the epoxy it will probally look 10 times better congratulations on making such a good looking swimbait Quote
Ifish4keeps Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 one question, how long did it take you to make this? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 12, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2008 one question, how long did it take you to make this? i purposly didnt put fins on it for fear of the fins stabilizing the lure and taking all of the swimming action away. i might put fins on my next one. i started this on sunday, but i havent been working nonstop. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 12, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2008 first coat of epoxy is on the tailsection...no fatalities....yet . in a few hours i will put the first coat on the midsection. this [epoxy drying] is going to be a long, drawn out time period; i think im gonna go ahead and get started on my next bait! Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 12, 2008 Super User Posted July 12, 2008 (I've been wanting to use that smiley for a long time ;D) That looks really good. I like the look of the cut out gills. I might have to try it on my next one. Did you just carve them out with an x-acto? Quote
