amgbrews Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Hi Guys - I'm looking for some intel on tweaking my current setups and adding an additional bait caster to my arsenal. I'm fishing lakes in Northern NJ and NY state. Most of the time I'm fishing rubber worms/creatures as well as topwater, crank/jerk, spinner, and swim baits. All of the following rods are used as multipurpose. As I fish more and get more serious I'd like to tweak my setups and add to my arsenal. Here is what I'm working with right now.. Spinning Rods: All Star Select ASDSSP601M - 6' Fast Medium Line wt: 8-17lb | Lure wt: 1/4-5/8oz with a Pfleuger President reel Triumph TRS70MF - 7' Medium Fast Line wt: 6-12lb | Lure wt: 1/4-5/8oz with a Pflueger Arbor reel Pflueger Arbor PFLASP661F - 6'6 combo w/ Arbor reel that I got from Gander Mtn that arrived without a tip (closeout that they wouldn't replace!) - Can I replace the tip? Fenwick Silverhawk - 6'6 medium heavy (I think. It's in my boat's rod locker) - a buddy gave me this one, it's got a Pflueger President on it as well. Casting: Quantum TEC606F - 6' Medium Heavy Fast Line wt: 10-20lb | Lure wt: 1/4-3/4oz - This was a garbage pick I found on the side of the road. The rod is overall in good shape, the cork handle is a bit dry and the bottom cork is a little chewed but free is free! I don't have a reel for this. -- Can anyone recommend a budget reel for this? All of my spinning rods are lined with "moss green" 20lb Power Pro braid. I'm also looking to add a quality baitcasting setup to my arsenal. I've been reading the forums and am interested in potentially a Dobyn's Fury w/ Shimano Curado reel? Let's discuss. Comments, Concerns, suggestions please... Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted April 7, 2016 Super User Posted April 7, 2016 dobyn's fury and shimano curado will be a great purchase that will serve you well for a long time! on the broken tip, you can get a fuji guide tip repair kit at many sporting good stores, even Walmart somewhere between $5 and $10. youtube some videos on how to replace, it's actually quite simple and cost effective to do it yourself. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 8, 2016 Super User Posted April 8, 2016 Welcome to the forum. This is pinned at the top and should be a big help to you if you haven't already read it. People will want to know if you fish from shore or boat. What kind of cover you fish. How much are you willing to spend? One of the best places to buy a rod or reel is from this forum's Flea Market and the For Sale forums on other sites. State bass forums are also good places to look for used gear. Since you fish a lot of plastic baits, I am going to suggest a 7' or longer MHF or MHXF casting rod if not fishing from restricted areas....meaning bushes, trees, etc. close by. This is the area where people are willing to spend more to get as much sensitivity as they can for their money. Check out St. Croix Bargain Room and Cabela's Bargain Cave. Watch for closeouts. Sports Academy has Rod Riot and Reel Riot sales where you can save a lot. 2 Quote

For new rods keep an eye on fisherman's factory outlet. http://ffo-tackle.com/Index.cfm They have a Fenwick HMG 7'3" MHF for less than 60 bucks. I happen to be a Fenwick fan. Thanks for being so thorough. Almost always fishing from a boat. Fishing everything from rocky bottoms, heavy weed cover, lilly patches etc. I saw the Fenwick @ FFO, looks tempting!! I don't have an unlimited budget, but I'm not afraid to spend $200+ on a nice BC setup. I like to buy things once lol Great tips on the used market Quote

A bigger pontoon boat should work. Most I can take in the car when I go by myself is about 1/6 of them. Quote
