I bought a st croix mojo last year and fished with it maybe a dozen times before the season ended. Just went out for the first time this season and noticed the top guide was a little bent/crooked. I put a tiny bit of pressure on it to see if I could straighten it back out and the entire tip snapped off like a twig.  I didn't pay for a warranty or register the rod with them or anything and don't have my receipt (bought from cabelas) , anybody have experience with repairs or replacements from st croix?  Or am I out 100+ $

St Croix has just about the best customer service in the industry. Call them and see what they have to say.

No matter what you arent out anything but a new guide for the tip or straiten the one you have and reuse it. What you lost a inch or so off the length big deal.

They have exceptional customer service and will certainly fix or replace the rod if the fault lies with them.  Unfortunately, from your description I am guessing it was accidentally shut the tip in the door or something.  And I agree with s sass that it would be much easier to just purchase a Fuji tip replacement kit, I have had to use it on nearly half of the rods I own.

Damaged rods snap like dry wishbones. They'll even snap on the cast. It's actually pretty darn easy to damage a graphite fishing rod. It can be as easy as having a bait snap back from a minor snag and bounce off the blank.

The nicer the rod, the thinner the graphite, and the more fragile they'll be. One should always consider warranty replacement plans when spending upwards of $100+ on a rod. The high-high-end rods are even more fragile!

St Croix Mojo rods have a 5 year warranty. If not registered the 5 years is determined from the manufacture date which is a letter on the bottom of the rod. Go to the warranty page on the St Croix website.

St Croix will take care of you. I have broken rods from them that were 100% my fault, and was 100% honest in telling them so, and they always went the extra mile to make sure my own stupidity was not to hard on my wallet.

St Croix, and Pure Fishing (Berkley, Abu, Fenwick rods, etc...) are the best when it comes to customer service for rods. Don't ask me about Shimano and/or Kistler, I have nothing good to say,so I won't say anything LOL.

I've owned a bunch of Mojos and the only one I ever broke was my own fault (swinging a 3lb fish on a medium spinning rod, dumb, dumb idea).

I own a few dozen St. Croix rods, the only one that ever broke that wasn't my fault was a Rage, which have pretty well documented breakage issues and have since been discontinued. Even when it was my fault, St. Croix took care of me and replaced it for a minimal fee and they even have a discount shipping program for you to send it in with.

Comparing the quality of a $200 rod to a $120 rod isn't a very level comparison.

Contact St Croix their customer service is second to none, and they'll take care of you. I have 4 Mojos two of which are the old model and two of the new ones, and none have yet to break. As said earlier graphite rods are fragile and that can happen easily, I was bank fishing one time and barley caught a tiny twig as I was casting and it broke the tip off like it was nothing.

Modern rods have a tremendous strength/weight ratio but are somewhat intolerant of rough handling. Avoid jamming tips, dents , dings and high sticking and you won't have any problem.

It sounds like it was damaged somewhere along the line. Mojo's do have a warranty. If you didn't register it or still have the receipt, it goes by the date of manufacture, which they can tell from the serial number on the blank. St. Croix is known for their great customer service. Give them a call and see what they can do.

St Croix has good customer service and will fix will for a fee. St Croix was the first I purchased years ago that wasn't from Walmart that came in a combo under $25. I got the St Croix Triumph paired with a Shimano spinning reel from a local bait shop and liked it but unfortunately did have to take it back 3 times for breaks in 3 different places. Only one was my fault (closing a door on the very tip of the rod but the other was fighting a fish and the last was casting a weightless senko. I whipped it and did hit anything but it snapped.

I think each time I paid around 30 to 35 for it to get fixed and shipped by the bait shop to St Croix. I like the rod but unfortunately it kinda turned me off from them.

I've bought several different rods since then from Abu, Shimano, Daiwa, ***,  and G Loomis. The combinition of comfort, style, reliability, and DURABILITY in my opinion came from Daiwa and Loomis. All the Daiwa rods were purchased brand new online on sale and the all the G Loomis were purchased 2nd hand (Many from this site) and you truthfully cant beat them. I don't even think I can break my Daiwa rods if I tried.

ST Croix has a nice product that feels light and sensitive but unfortunately I was just turned off from the same rod breaking in 3 different places. It also wasn't even the highest end rod they make

Well lets see, I'll bet dollars to donuts that you'll have great results with any rod St. Croix makes that is in the same price range as the Megabass rods you recommend. I also bet you never heard of the cigarette butts in a bunch of super oorochi blanks either?? Yep, $400 rod with no warranty that had a cigarette butt in the blank and it wasn't the only one. My point is there are lemons with anything that is mass produced, it is how the company takes care of the customer when something happens is how I judge and even then it isn't always 100% as you have to deal with a human and sometimes people have bad days. So you broke 3 Mojo rods, which I'll bet they were replaced or your money refunded and after you broke your 3rd $120 Mojo you went out and grabbed either a $300 or $400+ Megabass rod, now that is comparing apples to apples. I' be willing to bet if he traded up to a Legend Tournament or even an Avid he's never look back either, and I do apologize for the little bit of sarcasm but think about what you said, you broke 3 Mojo rods in the same spot, so you go buy a Megabass and you never looked back, the more I read that the more ridiculous it sounds just because of the obvious distinction of a Mojo being a work horse mid tier rod while the other is high end/enthusiast level rod, absolutely ridiculous.

I warrantied a Mojo Bass that was 100% my fault and just paid the $20 Silver Star amount plus shipping with no hassle at all.  St. Croix's warranty is top notch.

That particular rod has a 5 year warranty and at croix has great service. They will probably cover you. Btw, I called them to register one of my rods that was way over due for their registration policy and they did for me with no questions asked. You should be fine.

Great advice in the thread. I, too, have had excellent
service from Croix, and I've only had to use them one
time (though I've called them several times).

I'm with the replace the tip crew mostly. I've both done
the repairs on rods, and have had them done by a rod
builder. I like the builder's repairs, he's got more tips
on hand so can find the specific size needed. But doing
it yourself is not really hard at all.

If it is a thorn in your side, give SC a call and see what
they'll do for you.

The other option is to take the opportunity and upgrade
to a new rod - which is what I ended up doing.

One question I have for all the "replace the tip" people - does replacing the tip void the warranty where if the rod actually snaps later for some other reason, St. Croix won't honor the warranty because you replaced the tip (i.e. made a non-factory modification)?

Ok my experience with st croix customer service is different than everyone else. I was in the exact same situation...mojo bass broken blank with no receipt or warranty registered. I contacted St croix and they wanted 55 dollars to replace the rod plus it would cost 15 bucks to ship, so you are looking at 70 bucks to replace your mojo bass rod. I'm not saying that's a bad deal because I should have had the receipt and it was my fault, but I've never experienced the St. Croix customer service everyone boasts about where they will "take care of it". I've sent in many rods st.croix  for warranty and always had to pay a fairly large amount of money to get them replaced.

How much did that end up costing? What rod did you upgrade to?

I wanted to upgrade my broken mojo bass to an avid. It would have cost $55 plus the price difference of $100 plus $15 shipping.

Well, I went from an Avid to a Legend Tournament so
the difference was $135, I believe.

I had the Avid for about 4 years, 3 of those it sat broken
for the most part while I decided what to do...

I looked at the price of admission to a much better rod
as a nicely discounted purchase, so-to-speak.
