bnwcrankin Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Here's some new one's i painted up this week. Let me know what you think of them, please.... Old smithwick color... 'SPOTTED APE' and a bluegill.. Rayburn Red craw and Midnight Blue Craw (crackled).. Anyone ever use these mudbug's? They look pretty cool and you always find them in the oldtimer's tackleboxes, so their must be something to them... Gizzard Shad.... Quote
MMan16 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I really like the gizzard shad paints. I have never seen those mud bugs before there very interesting to say the least. I like the crackle pattern you chose it resembles the different segments you would see in a craw. Good work! Quote
BIG M Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The shad and craws are very nice indeed, I'm not hip on the spotted ape pattern, just a little too busy for my taste. The paint work is spot on for every bait in the bunch. Quote
bnwcrankin Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 Crazy looking color isn't it Marty? Guy's down here in Florida swear by that color on a DH though! I guess if your working it fast enough it might resemble a gill or something... Quote
CCP Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I think they all look good. I have several of the old mudbuggs and hellbenders that were given to me awhile back. I have never fished them but, am told that they are great crankbaits. Quote
Stringjam Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The Mudbugs and original Bombers are great cranks. They do a great job coming through cover - but I take those infernal eye-mounted hooks off and reattach the hooks with split rings. The smaller ones are killer for smallmouth when they're shallow. The action is very erratic / panicky Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 bluegill and shads look great Quote
tholmes Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Great looking bluegill, and the gizzard shads are just killer! RE: Mudbugs. I've still got a few of them around. They slay smallies on gravel or rock bottoms. Only thing is, like every other Arbogast lure, they want better hooks. Tom Quote
ranger 361 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 SOME OF THE BEST PAINT JOBS I HAVE SEEN, KEEP THE COMING. Quote
bosshogg Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Barry, I have caught a ton of bass on the spotted ape color pattern DH. Your version is the best I've seen. I really think your Gizzard Shad is killer and the bream, as always, superb. As far as the old mudbugs, they were the early models of deep divers and did catch fish, but there were a lot more to catch then. I do like your crackle, especially the crawfish. The absolute master of bottom bumpers is "Big Marty". His baits by far exceed anything I've ever thrown. Quote
backwater4 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 All look great, but those gizzard shads are awesome. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Very nice! All are excellently executed. Very very good Quote
