So I'm hopefully going to be fishing the Chesapeake this summer and I was wondering what I should use, how I should use it and maybe any good spots. I'll be leaving from the carefree boat club which is near the national aquarium so anywhere near the Baltimore harbor with maybe 20 or 30 minutes of there would be good (in boating time). So yeah if you could give me some tips on where, what, and how to fish the upper Chesapeake then that would be great!

What species will you be targeting?

I am not sure yet but I think there are at least a few types of bass and I know for sure there are catfish so I'll be going for whatever I can get

Well if you want to catch multiple species than you might as well use a multi species lure. Try a spoon, maybe a kastmaster, about 1/4oz. The thing you have to understand about saltwater/brackish is how big of a role the tide plays. I'm not exactly the best person to help you here, but if you want to target catfish, use live bait, and big tackle. Maybe your setup should look something like this:

Bass Rod: (The spoon i mentioned, maybe a jig)

Bait Rod: Shrimp on a small hook and sinker (for bait)

Catfish Rod: a heavy duty setup with live/cut bait from your shrimp rig

Well if your leaving the harbor you can catch stripers right at the Key bridge, I wouldn't eat a fish from there but they sure are fun to catch. Fish the edge of the channel there are areas where you'll be in 17-20 FOW and it will suddenly drop off to 40' either drag buck tails or some big plastic swim baits down off that ledge that there and hang on. Been there done that and it's a short hop from the harbor. If your looking to do some perch fishing the columns of the bridge can't be beat, just use a shad dart tipped with grass shrimp.
