I bought a Humminbird Heliix 5. Thought I would Mount the Transducer on the trolling motor (Min Kota). After opening the package it says I need to have a different Transducer for the Trolling motor, Just follow the instructions on line for the "Exchange Program" . Of course I bought Helix 5 DI with Transducer XNT 9 DI T and the replacement (XTM 9 DI 25 T) is an additional $60.00 +tax

It's not about the money but the fact I bought the ONLY unit that requires an additional cost for replacement. All others are an even exchange.

So my question is...Do I really need the different transducer? Can i just mount the transom transducer oh the trolling motor with no ill effect?

I finally got a hold of Humminbird and they said the transom mount will work on the trolling motor.  Yea me!

The million dollar question (to me, anyway), is how do you mount a transom transducer onto a trolling motor?

You get a trolling motor mount.

The XTM 9 DI 25 T is a Down Imaging trolling motor PUCK that has extra internal shielding to help with possible RFI from the trolling motor.

You can do a half axxed installation and hope for no issues, or you can do it correctly to have a head start on dealing with RFI if it should occur.

The trolling motor adapter is the MHX XNT if you want to take the chance.

There is a more sturdy mount for that transducer on the trolling motor, but it costs more than the exchange would be. Transducer Shield and Saver

TM-DI or TM-DI-2

Sorry to somewhat hijack this thread. My trolling motor has the skag in the front like what you have pictured (maxxum 70), I would like to throw my HDSI transducer on the TM. I am currently looking into http://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/product/tm-hdsi/ for the transducer. would this saver work without any extra wedges? I know I will need the metal straps.

Your installation is not unique, others have done it.

The rear of that mount would have to be modified so it has clearance for the prop.

Contact Transducer Shield and Saver to get one custom made for your motor.
