Brent Christian Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I recently aqquired one, and if i wasnt on my computer would post pics. Its 16ft long with a 88spl Johnson, seems to run fine, also has a jackplate.. The boat is a 1976 model and from what im gathering is pretty rare considering this was the only bass boat that checkmate made. Just wanted to see if anyone has had or heard of them? How should it run boat is only 700lbs, and has a 1988 88hp spl Johnson? Thanks guys Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 6, 2016 Super User Posted April 6, 2016 I've never heard of that one before. I used to have a Ranger 320V that was about 7" longer but same hull weight with an 88 spl. I ran a CMC jackplate and a Raker 20 pitch it'd run in the low 40's. I had a 22P Raker as well and topped it off at just over 45 but was too slow out of the hole with 2 people for my taste. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 6, 2016 Super User Posted April 6, 2016 Seen a lot of Checkmate's but never knew they ever made a bass boat. If it's like most normal Checkmates, it should be pretty quick being a 16' boat with a 90 on it. The only difference between the 88SPL and the 90 was the 88 didn't have the VRO, so they called it an 88 just to help keep it form being compared to the 90. Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't bump 50 with a light load and the right prop. Quote
