RyanDR Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 The model I was looking at is the Shimano 15 Sephia SS C3000SDH. http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/26451/osCsid/e8217c2495fc41bcbd9eb3afe407ef1c/ Says it's a "Squid reel" but I don't see why I couldn't put it on a bass setup. It looks pretty sexy and it caught my eye. Anybody know anything about this reel? Quote
IAY Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 No reason you can't use it for bass. Go for it! 1 Quote

offsidewing Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 In Japan fishing for squid is called "Eging." Keep in mind while the Sephia is a shallow spool C3000 sized reel, it's max drag rating is pretty high. That style of fishing is designed to use 10-20lb braid. If you're looking for a spinning reel to use 15 or 20lb braid on, this would be it. Not sure if I would use this reel for locking down the drag on 6lb fluoro. 1 Quote

I wanted it put it on a ML rod with 6lb flouro actually. But maybe I'll just have to use that reel for a whole new setup Quote

Yup, when I studied at the Guaymas unit of the ITESM we used to go squid fishing in the Cortez Sea. We caught these: Of course those required slightly more powerful stuff than regular squid gear. 2 Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted April 6, 2016 Super User Posted April 6, 2016 that's a lot of calamari, Raul Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 6, 2016 Super User Posted April 6, 2016 1 hour ago, .ghoti. said: that's a lot of calamari, Raul I never caught one THAT BIG, that thing must easily weight 60 or 70 pounds, I caught smaller ones ( 27 lbs was my largest ) but still, even a little one, ( 5-6 lbs ) puts a really nice fight. You gotta be careful when unhooking them, the suction cups got "teeth" ( can't find a better description ) , the arms are powerful and the beak can easily chop your fingers. They are voracious feeders and it's not uncommon that you catch one and all you reel in after a few moments of fight is leftovers because the others ate it while you were reeling it in. Quote
