Quantum hot sauce. I realize some don't like it but is it safe to use on gen 3 revo premier bearings?

The late "ReelMech" reel mechanic, one of the best reel servicers, would charge extra if a reel had hot sauce in it.

He hated it, didn't think it lubed well, and it contaminated his cleaning system.  I think it basically disappears as lube leaving only the stain.  I have been using "reel butter" for the last few years and have liked it.  I see Lucas has a reel oil now; I would expect Lucas to be as good on reel oil as on the rest of their products.

You can do better than "hot sauce."  IMHO

Hot sauce is OK if you like everything inside of your reel to be red and also like re-lubing your bearings every month.

I agree it only stains things badly. Bantam the one time shimano rep that frequented this forum once stated that it would void the shimano warranty. Reel Butter is basically 3 in 1 oil in viscosity, Ardents Butter grease is basically a gritty paste. Ardent doesnt make anything themselves, who knows where they get the stuff.  I like Rocket Fuel mostly, Reel X and INOX also.

There are much better lubricants than Red Sauce, like Abu reel grease and oil ....

Last few years I have been using either 3 in 1 oil or Rem-oil on my reels. Both products work great, available at walmart and are cheap.

What I do..........might not be "expert" approved but has worked and worked well.

After I am done fishing for the season, everything gets brought in the house, I spray me reels down with CLP...........lord knows I have enough of it on hand for firearms stuff. Wipe them down, hit everything with quick dissolving electronic parts cleaner to "flush" the grime and CLP out, as well as de-grease. A light amount of regular old automotive type wheel bearing grease on the gears, and a drop of rem-oil or 3-1 oil in the bearings/worm gear. Put them away.............get them out in the spring and fish. Sometime mid way through the season all the bearings and worm gears get another drop of oil.

its just a thin oil with red dye. Not the one I would choose for sure but it's not "unsafe" to use.

Whats (in your opinion) the best oil and grease to use on a fishing reel? Sorry if its a trade secret, just ignore me if I'm out of line for asking.

I've mostly used hot sauce in the past, but hate the red dye. Lately I have been running some Benelli gun oil that came with a gun I bought. I have to say its been good stuff! I've been using it since last sept and have had nothing but good results, even with ice fishing reels in -0 temps.

Hot Sauce should only be used on Mexican food. It has no place in the fishing industry for this guy!

I'm not Mike but I'll chime in....  It depends on you, the reel and the conditions.  Your in Iowa. You don't need a marine grease that is per say waterproof. But it is very economical to get a tube or jar of Quicksilver or Yamalube. It doesn't breakdown as fast as Penn or Abu grease. Do you catfish on those Iowa streams/rivers?  If so you might appreciate a thin viscosity oil on you levelwind and bearings for long distance casting from the bank.  3 in 1 oil dries up and leaves a varnish that will cause you to soak bearings more often.  Rem Oil is very low viscosity too.  Somewhere on the net there is a list of all kinds of reel oils with their viscosities, you can google for it if you need.  Spinning reels don't need anything special and higher viscosity works best since bearings have nothing to do with casting and everything to do with smoothness.  When I got into souping up reels I started using souped up oil, its just part of the hobby.  Surely not needed.  The best oil performs, period. But performance calls for lighter oil which means continuous maintenance. Rocket Fuel can really help in distance casting but has to be added every trip.  Met Oil too.  A hardly known oil in the USA is INOX. It is food grade so its harmless and leaves no residue what so ever.  Reel X is at BPS and works great.  Really good grease has always been a problem for me. Yamalube because I'm using my stuff in saltwater has always made sense.  But all reel grease seems to travel off the gears and pinion, glob up just out of the way of the gears teeth and become useless after just a very short period of use. Then it migrates to the drag washers and ruins drag performance fast. Marine grease sticks to the gears teeth better.  So does Rocket Fuel Liquid Grease.

There's no magic to lubricants. The Benelli oil is probably similar to Remoil and should work fine. Simple sewing machine oil will work. A small drop of something light . I like Boca Lightning Lube for max free spool and Tsi321 for longevity. Grease wise either marine grease or Superlube on gears and 80-140 gear oil on levelwind, sliding parts and non-spool bearings .

I used to be very into shooting and eventually settled on regular old ATF fluid as my gun oil and white lithium grease as my gun grease.  Obviously fishing reels don't have the same high temp issue as firearms, but I have been using both on my reels so far with no complaint.  I will say this is mostly because I already have precision oilers for both already loaded up.

Blah blah.  Haters gonna hate hate hate.  I have 8-10 reels with this stuff in it and have never had a problem.  All are working flawlessly and I do them once each Winter.  OverANALyzing about oil & grease

LOL, cott...its not as though there's just a couple trolls jerking your chain....seems to be a pretty strong consensus of (respected?) real world experience talking above

Just saying that I've used it since it debuted on many reels and its worked flawless every time...still working flawless.  From my own personal experience it seems to be good stuff.  Quantum kind of gets a bad rap and therefore so does their hot sauce.

Wow, now oil and grease conversations spur insults. So I hold my 6 reels a little higher than you do your 8 or 10 reels. So I enjoy trying different oils when I don't find the one I was using to be up to par. OverANALyzing, no just enjoying my hobby.

Nobody is insulted here or trying to insult anyone.  I just don't understand why the product gets knocked.

Im sure red lube has its place and it sure aint near any bearings..i traded  abu for a abu got this reel knowing it wasnt very smooth its what he said.opened it up and  the guy put the redlube all over the  inside.drag, maingear, pinion dawn took care of   that problem .works like new now less is more and rem oil and abu grease get it done

I use ...

Super lube grease for gears and non spool bearings, sliding parts

Super lube oil for worm gears, line rollers

Cals drag grease for drag washers

Yellow rocket fuel for spool bearings

The red staining from hot sauce was enough to make me never consider using that garbage again. Don't care if it works well as a lubricant or not.

I think Quantum's intentions were good with Hot Sauce. The thought of the user being able to easily eyeball where the oil was being applied to and how much. Would take any guesswork out of whether a certain area had product applied to it. However the aftermath is where it gets people. I think they should scrap the color/red dye and use something more traditional and that won't stain parts.
