ber6363 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I am thinking about driving into mexico with my boat and spend some time fishing in lake Zimapan. I was wondering about safety.. anyone have any experiences in that area . It is near Queretaro Mx? Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted April 4, 2016 Super User Posted April 4, 2016 welcome, nice first post. We have a memebr here, Raul, he lives in Mexico and can probably shed some light for you. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 4, 2016 Super User Posted April 4, 2016 @Raul - lives in Mexico @Big-O - does this several times a year I have been to Mexico more than a dozen times in the last several years. But always fly down. I have only fished Lake Baccarac for bass, but have done a ton of saltwater fishing as well while down there Jeff 1 Quote

mrmacwvu1 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Welcome I used to live in Mexico but a totally different part. Where I lived the cops could stop you for no reason and be prepared to pay them off even if you did nothing wrong. I never ran afoul but several people I know did. The people and the food is awesome for the most part. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 6, 2016 Super User Posted April 6, 2016 Zimapan, one of my most favorite places to fish ever. Zimapan is about a 2 hr drive from Queretaro, pass Queretaro, take the road to Peña de Bernal, Ezequiel Montes, Cadereyta, pass Cadereyta take the road to El Palmar, pass el Palmar and take the road to the town of Zimapan, almost right after leaving El Palmar you'll find the road to the lake, my take ? Don't bring your boat, you won't need it, better rent a bass boat at the lake, it's cheaper and you don't have to tow the dang thing for hundreds of miles. To fish from a boat you'll need a fishing license, the cost is around 25 dollars but you can use it to fish any lake in any state since it's federal. some Zimapan pictures. 9 Quote

I remember when I went to St Louis to the Purina International animal nutrition congress I was told not to wander around downtown because I could get mugged, hell, I´m chilango ( kinda like being a New Yorker ), I fear nothing ( specially when I want a Wendy´s burger at 10 PM and Wendy´s is three blocks away ). 7 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 7, 2016 Super User Posted April 7, 2016 Welcome aboard! May fortune favor you as you hit the trophy bass lakes down there! Some day I hope to make it there. I like to poke the ribs of all the guys who go down there... Quote

Smokinal Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 The guide I hired for my Falcon trip also does guided trips to Sugar and he is constantly saying that Sugar will produce your PB for sure. I'd love to go to Sugar or Baccarac but wouldn't hire him again. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted April 22, 2016 Super User Posted April 22, 2016 I have gone to Mexico for vacation more than once and I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it.It has its bad areas which are best to stay away from, but the good areas far outweigh them. Its definitely a place worth visiting! 1 Quote
