Any of you guys throwing this for Drop shot or finesse applications. Played with a 4000 the other day feels like a nice reel. Unfortunately no one local has the 2000 or 2500.

Also was reading it has proprietary screws so self maitnence could be a issue??? Never owned any of the mag sealed stuff, kinda want to grab one of these to shootout against my ci4 Stradic.

I have both reels, a ci4+ 4000 and a ballistic ex 3000. I like the ballistic a better, feels smoother and doesn't have that clicking feeling most of my shimanos have when the spool oscillation changes from up to down. The bail opens and closes better than my stradics and overall it just feels more solid. The drags are both great but I'd favor the shimano in that area.

You can still clean the mag sealed reels but it won't have the mag seal around the shaft anymore which isn't a big deal in freshwater. I'm not sure if there's a way to replace the magnetic fluid yourself or not, others may have more info on this.

I also have two new daiwa luvias spinning reels that I like better than the ballistic and much better than any shimano spinning reel I've ever owned.

Thanks for input. Was checking Daiwas site it's only $12 per reel for annual maitnence which isn't bad at all seeing as how it covers return shipping. How extensive it is idk. Didn't go JDM on these :(

So I ordered 2 of these, the 2000 and 2500. Really looking forward to it. idk if I'll fully convert but leaning to switching to Daiwa. Definitely switching for a couple applications. Figured why not start by doing the easy part, 2 spinning reels.

To do a deep cleaning on a spinning reel take me about 90 minutes. After shipping that's $4/HR. So......

I think the point DVT is trying to make is that its very unlikely you will get a good cleaning from daiwas $12 service. Probably just add grease and oil and send it back to you!

I've never had a problem with daiwas service department. They've fixed numerous reels for me free of charge parts and return shipping included.

I have the 2000 size and it's a very nice reel. I use it primarily for jigging for crappies and perch. I have however done some walleye and bass fishing with it as well and it has worked well for me. It's very smooth and operates flawlessly. I would say it's right on par with my Stradics.

With the bigger fish is the drag really as erratic as TT says. If I decide to keep them I'll definitely throw in some carbontex anyways.

I've never noticed the drag to be erratic on my ballistic ex. It's very smooth and even with hard pulling fish.

That's good to know. They've received some lemon reels before and reviewed them anyways.

I haven't caught anything bigger than 2-3 pounds with it, but I never noticed any issues. I guess if the reel failed me mid-fight, I might notice a drag issue...
