Another vote for the war eagle mouse. I also like any spinner from Strike king.

It's a toss up between a 1/4 ounce white/chart. spinnerbait, and a 1/2 ounce white bladed jig with a white fat albert trailer. They have both been working for me.

Chatterbait or swim jig............LOL. I retired the spinnerbaits a few years ago, and don't even own any as of right now.

What colors for the chatterbait work best for you here in wny?

Once I get a chance to get back out there in a few weeks, I've got a new MegaStrike Strike-back spinnerbait in a lavender shad color to try out. I even have a new combo to throw it on.

Bluegill colors... War eagle are my favorite...

Terminator T1 white with chartreuse.  Chartreuse is always good early in the season.  Bluegill later on, but not out of the question.  Above is just where I start, and if that is slow I try to find what they want.

I'm still iced up here but the red / pink blade is a perennial spring time producer

Nice looking bait..is that a Stanley? I love my War Eagles though. I own a few Booyah's and Terminators that I added War Eagle blades and hardware to and they perform beautifully.   My main blade is the War Eagle 3/8 White/Chart with double willows, gold and silver.

Odd story...so two Fridays ago me and my best friend and fishing partner went to a lake we hit up in the spring and fall and caught some really nice smallies. I caught mine on the 6 inch Huddleston and the 8 inch Triple Trout. After a little time of not getting bites I would pick up the War Eagle and have never been skunked on it, not once. They would not touch a spinnerbait that day but they would smash an 8 inch swimbait.....I found that to be odd and definitely a head scratcher. Not even a small fish, 14-16 inch boat flipper...nothing...

I always start out with a white spinnerbait once the bass first move shallow for the year, but as the water temp progresses I move toward throwing a bluegill color. Revenge Baits makes one of the best I've ever used. I also am fond of my giant custom spinnerbait pictured below. The blade is the size of a mag spoon. It whacks fish at places with giant gizzard shad.

Boring old black/blue, white, and a bluegill color. I fish the bluegill color 90% of the time.

I assemble my own. I use LPO heads/blades/hardware, and the Z-man "ez-skirts"

I K.I.S.S........................3/8's oz head.........always black, and the nickle blade w/o bubble holes for all three. I did buy a pack of green pumpkin heads for the bluegill colored ones last fall, but didn't catch anymore with them than I did with a black head, so once they are gone, I'll just stick to black for the sake of simplicity. I have been meaning to try other blade colors, but they bite the nickle one so well, I don't really think change for the sake of change is needed.

I keep my trailers simple..........the bluegill one usually gets a 4" green pumpkin curly tail grub, the black/blue one gets a black/blue chigger craw, and the white one gets a white 4" grub with the tail dipped in chart. dye.

In the spring, I'll be using a Terminator with an Oklahoma blade, or a different brand spinnerbait with an extra Oklahoma blade or Colorado blade. It allows for a slower retrieve while throwing off a lot of vibration. The combo seems to do wonders!

I was out couple days ago and the usually sure crankbait didn't even get a bump.  Pulled out an old rusty $1 Walmart special - used to be white, but changed color from rust :).  Got 5 in 30 minutes....   This one has been good in a quarry with lots of shad.

Most of my spinnerbaits are frankenbladed, that Stanley does good for me. I use a bunch of Booyah, Strike King, Stanley, Humdingers, Mann's as well as some others. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't love most War Eagles.  I think the head weight, and blade combo is the ticket for spinnerbait success most of the time.

This is what I usually throw pre spawn.

I couldn't find any lures in the store with stock indianas. They were all either tandem or double willow or night fishing style colorado.

If you want to save some money strike king makes spinnerbaits just for dicks that are around 3.50 and are pretty decent

Did you just call the original poster a dick? :)

I mostly been throwing a white/chart. chatterbait but when I do throw a spinnerbait, it has been a single colorado 3/8oz. made by Mr. Hootie.

I have really took to the Pepper Custom Baits Clearwater Elite. I would never spend the $7 per bait but since my local Walmart started to clearance them at $3 ea I stocked up. I got Purple Illusion, Chartreuese White, and a Bluegill color. These are awesome for $3 each.

If I wanted a really smooth true running quality spinner bait with a keeper for trailers and money was no issue, I would buy them at $7 each no problem.

Most states don't have laws prohibiting changing out the blades, and the ones that do seldom enforce them...
