trupp30 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I am thinking of getting either a Smoke PT, or an Energy PT. Anyone who has experience with these reels your help is appreciated. Also, what do you use the reels for? How do these reels compare to an Abu Garcia Revo SX. Thanks for the help. Quote
RichF Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I have both a smoke and an energy but last generation. I don't really care for either but I'd say the energy is better. I may have got a dud smoke though because I ordered it off amazon. The smoke can cast a mile but isn't as smooth as the energy. The finishes on both reels aren't great either (chip and scuff easy). I've never used an SX but I have 3 of gen 1 revo premiers. I like them better than the Quantums....but not that much more. I would imagine all three of the reels you mentioned will be pretty close (performance-wise). I will say that the revos are definitely more comfortable to palm. Quote
Dye99 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Ive got two energy BC's. Ive used the Smokes and agree that the energy is far better. I use them as backups, and loaners. Ive had them two years or so, seem to work pretty good. Really light but they feel cheap almost. For the cost they aren't a bad deal. Quote
Wbeadlescomb Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I don't own either but I've never had any trouble out of a quantum pt reel Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 I have the first generation Smoke, I think it is the best casting reel Quantum has made!! I'm talking about the 150 model, the 100 is a good reel too but the Smoke 150 has just been solid. Quote
TxHawgs Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I had the high end energies from a cpl yrs ago. Couldn't tell u the models but they were that chrome like finish. When I bought them the only reel above them was the KVD model but I just couldn't do red lol. They were pretty nice, didn't have much adjustability in the brakes just a dial on the side. My buddy bought the smoke reels and they were definitely a step up from those. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 Have two smokes and love the casting ability, its like an unrefined quarter mile car that runs 9s when it comes to casting, but after years of use too much play in the reels and not as smooth as others. I had plenty of Revos from Premiers to the original Skeet Reese models and sold them all. Don't know anything about the energy PTs series. Consider a Tatula Type R they can be had for $140-$150 and they are great performers for the long haul. Quote
