I've had several and have been one a few times. My first friend that taught me about bass fishing invited me to go with him and his dad to their once a year bream trip in the St Johns river. Before we ever launched the boat I knocked the crickets over .Most of them escaped and went all over in the boat.During the day we would have them crawling up our legs etc.Sometimes we would step on them.It got to where we would try to catch them in the boat when we ran out in the can,or listen to them chirping and try to find them.Never got invited again for some reason. The worst"that guy"I ever took was my buddy from school "hoot owl". He begged me to take him so I did.We went speck fishing in a lake near Gainesville fl.After 5 minutes I got the strong impression he had never fished in his life.He could not bait his hook without losing the minnow.I baited the hook and he would throw it off because he couldn't coordinate how to throw a zebco 33.In fact, he's the only person I've ever fished with(including small children) that got a birds nest with one.And then held it up and said " Somethings wrong with my reel."He begged me for a hat to wear.I let him borrow one of my favorite Florida Gator hats with the condition that he not get it wet.In a little while I saw it floating by.I finally just made him drop his line over the side of the boat and an apparently very low IQ speck actually got on his line.

I have a dear friend I fished with for over 30 years.  Over those 30 years I fished with Tom Shaw almost every weekend.  We fished all over south Florida and one little habit drove me nuts.  If I was catching fish and Tom wasn't he would start whistling different songs and his whistling stunk!  I would never say anything to Tom about it, because if he was whistling, I was killing them and he wasn't.  I forgot to tell you, Tom was my boss, and the best boss you could ever have!

We lost Tom a few years ago, and I would give anything to hear Tom whistling again in the back of that boat.  There is never a day, or a trip, I don't think about my buddy!  Friends like Tom are far and few between.  Love you buddy!:(

I've got that friend that never pays or thinks that $10 should cover it when I drive an hour both ways and run all over the lake.

I've got that friend that borrows tackle and then forgets to give it back at the end of the day.

I've got that friend that's always later than he says he'll be.

I've got that friend that never mentions he has to leave early until we get to the lake.

I've got that friend that as soon as I catch a fish he's digging through his box to find the exact same thing.

I've got that friend that asks a million questions on what he should do, then does the exact opposite of the advice I give.

I've got that friend that no matter how many fish I'm catching refuses to take any advice or baits I may offer.

They're all still my friends though. Nobody is perfect and I'm not going to let minor things ruin my day or my friendship with people.

The man is a good stick but he just has questionable taste in shirt colors.

I have that one friend, who works out like a beast and is too strong for hook sets. I let him borrow my rod 1 time.....1 TIME....  And he breaks it on a hook set. :)

My co-angler/fishing partner is the ultimate "that guy." Money wise he isn't too bad. He will pick up my food and entry fees most of the time.

Very rarely do I ever fish without him. We work together, we have young kids, I coach football, he refs football, so our schedule is always the same which makes us available at the same time so it works out.

Anyways I have all the stuff; boat, truck, gear, tackle, etc. He brings two 6' Ugly Sticks for show and a little tackle bag that I'm pretty sure only has trout gear in it. Once we get on the water he just uses EVERYTHING of mine and he is such a thinker. I'll almost always at least triple his fish count, but sometimes when the bite is slow that big brain comes up with something that beats me like a drum.

If we fish for eight hours I will have my line in the water almost the entire time. He might fish a total of two hours because he is always changing baits, my baits. When I get home it's damage control. All of the cup holders on the boat are full of plastics so I have to put them all back where they are supposed to go.

I'll never ditch the guy though. First, he is as into bass fishing as I am in an area of the world that hates it. Second, he fishes off of what I do and never complains. We have had days where I've caught over a hundred fish and he might catch three and he considers it an awesome day because we caught 103 fish.

Yup my brother, he's always trying to use the smallest lures and ultralight setups no matter where we're fishing.

Hahaha. My one friend I've taken fishing a few times almost always ends up in the water somehow. Good guy but can be pretty clumsy. The most dangerous time was bank fishing near some turbines at a power plant. I had to pull him out that time. Glad i outweigh him by 100 pounds or he could have pulled me in too.

This thread reminded me of this meme lmao.

I have one that each time we go to the lake we have to make a competition out of the day, along with a LOT of smack talk, it's all fun and games, that is until you beat him, last year we managed 5 trips, we finished up 3 to 2, his favor, one trip we used his boat, I fished from the back and skunked him 5 to zip, I never heard so many excuses in all my life...

I have another friend who drinks more than he fishes. Once he caught a nice 4 lb bass and stopped to take pics of it and text them to everybody in his phone. Then he say down and drank, I guess assuming it couldn't get any better. I caught one a little bigger at the end of the trip and he was disappointed. I told him he should have fished a little harder and drank a little less and he might have had the big fish. Everything's a competition to him and he can't stand to get bested ant anything.

Hey, weren't you going anyway? LOL.

I have that friend who pays me with beer. But he always has beer, so I might actually be ahead.

One of my buddies I've known since high school (I'm 51) is "that friend" but in a mostly harmless sort of way.  He will bring 3 tackle boxes onto my boat with every bait known to man and yet 85 percent of the time he ties on the same bait (a roostertail). Occasionally, if he sees me doing it, he'll tie on a hollow body frog but instead of using the proper tackle, he'll tie it onto a whippy ultralight spinning rod with 6 lb line.  I TRY to explain why that is just asking for, at best, a lost fish and, at worse, a lost fish AND a lost bait but he just keeps on doing it.  If I could JUST get him to adapt more, I think he'd want to go out more because he'd catch more fish but he is what he is and I (mostly) just let him be.

I also had a "friend" who got the musky itch.  So he would musky fish while I cast for bass.  Problem was, because he could cast distances approaching a quarter of a mile, he thought he SHOULD-right into the areas where bank fishermen were.  One bank fisherman cussed him out rather eloquently and I just smiled-knowing he had it coming.  We don't hang out together anymore.

I am a bit anal and OCD about getting the boat, rods and lures ready. One thing that really gets me is  when a few minutes in to fishing that guy has equipment failure on his end and needs to borrow a rod and then all of my baits at the same time.

I also sometimes go crazy whenever I take anyone out and after I find a soft plastic that is working and they ask for a a hook and the soft plastic then go through a pack of both. Not knowing that gamagastku and high quality soft plastics cost what they cost. I shrug it off, people just don't know and I am glad to expose people to this wonderful sport.

He's the guy that picks what lure he wants to use before he gets on the lake. Also he only uses a few lures. Spinnerbait, crankbait and topwater frog, thats all he uses. He's never thrown a worm, or jig and doesn't know what a dropshot rig or shakey head is.

yup i have this friend too.  i'll figure out a pattern and explain it to him: they are in 10 ft of water, in the weeds, position ur kayak with your back to the shore, cast to deep water, drag back until you hit the weed bed.  stop and shake your worm there.  what does he do?  he makes a few casts with his spinnerbait, in the top 4 ft of the water column, gets no bites, and paddles away.  a few trips later i figured i hand him the exact color senkos/plastics i'm using.  he accepts them, casts his jig a few times, and moves on. some guys can't accept an idea unless it originated in their head:idea2:

I have unfortunately had a friend do that before.

After begging me for years to take him fishing, I finally decided to bring him.  he only fishes a couple times a year, so I was surprised when he said that he could throw a baitcaster. Me :are you sure you can cast it? They aren't as easy to cast as they look. Friend: yes, I use mine all the time! (He "forgot" his baitcaster both times I've been with him).  So the first time I took him fishing the bass were eating jerkbaits, but he didn't bring a rod stiff enough to throw them.  I let him borrow my baitcaster, (spooled with expensive tatsu floro) and within three casts he said, um, I think I got a tangle.  I looked over and saw a massive backlash.  The backlash was so bad and went so far into the spool that I couldn't untangle it and had to throw away fourty-five dollars of line.  He just didn't understand why I was so worked up over it.

My "that dude" showed me wacky rigging senkos and will get 5 to my one smallies in Spring in VT, so maybe I'm "that dude"? :)

My friend always complains that I catch more fish than him. Maybe it's because while he's busy talking my ear off, I'm fishing and catching fish.

He's "that dude" that talks far too much, and complains far too often.

I have another friends that wont shut up, talk too d**n much. He is right next to me  now, just talking and talking. Were fishing
