livemusic Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 For 2016, they offer this limited edition with 10 ball bearings, and I think it said lighter weight, will have to check that. Anyone have an opinion on this line for (finesse model bass and also crappie) use (model 20/25) and also maybe one for the heavier end of the model lineup (30/40) for heavier bass fishing use? I have a President 6940 and like it just fine but I am no spinning expert. Quote

I prefer the size 30 pfluegers over the 25 and 20 for spool size and line pick-up. One thing to consider is that through May, Pflueger has a $20 rebate deal if you buy a spinning reel for $99 or more, which is the regular retail of the Supreme. Since the rebate would put the supreme at the same total price as the LE, you could get a (very slightly) better reel for the same price. Quote
Allen Der Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I have 3 regular presidents, 3 supremes, and 1 president LE. all are 30 size except for one 25 size supreme. The president LE is way lighter than the regular president and pretty close to the supreme. I'd probably go with a supreme for the same price after rebate, but for the price it is still a good reel. maybe just pick the one you think looks better or matches your rod better. Quote
Brayberry Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I love the Pflueger President Limited Edition reels. I have 4 of the 30 size now, and I'm planning to switch all my spinning reels over to the LE. It's a amazing reel for the price. Best spinning reel I've ever used. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted April 2, 2016 Super User Posted April 2, 2016 I've been looking at the Pflueger spinning reels as well. The Supreme series will give you an all metal body where as the President series is a carbon body and rotor. The 99.00 Supreme doesn't have a carbon disc drag, but for 10/15 dollars a set of carbon discs can be swapped out. I'm leaning toward the 99.00 Supreme and using the 20.00 rebate to upgrade the drag washers. My .02 worth. oe Quote
livemusic Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 First, I don't see a $100 Supreme online. I see higher than that. I don't recall all the prices I saw but it was more than $100 and most were $150! Second, for ultralight fishing (crappie/bream/bass), anyone have an opinion on this? The President 6920 is even lighter than the Supreme and the LE in that size reel! It's also a lot cheaper than those models. Why shouldn't I just buy the President? I can get one for $50 total. I have a 6940 President for 'regular' bass fishing and like it a lot, so, I am sold on the President quality. But I'm all ears for what is the best choice. I mean, I can't see why line capacity is a big deal, because you can't cast a long ways with small baits. And, yes, the retrieve rate is slightly less with the President than the others, but it's not a big difference, and I can't see why that is a concern for ultralight fishing because I would not be fishing fast anyway. There's the supreme and the supreme XT. The XT goes for 150. TW has all the various models listed at the standard retail prices. Sounds like you already know what you want -- you should get it! the 6920 should be just fine for ultralight. I like the size 30s for M or ML spinning rods, because it seems the best trade-off among retrieve rate, line capacity, and weight. All else equal, i'd go smaller to tip the balance toward weight-reduction, I'd go bigger to tip the balance toward retrieve rate and line capacity, and I'd go to a more expensive model for less of a trade-off, depending on what I wanted to spend. 1 Quote
Kevin22 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I use trion 25s and shimano sienna and sedona 1000s for panfish. You don't need a $100 reel for crappie fishing. I make thousands and thousands of casts with my panfish rods each year and I have not had a problem other than the siennas having weak bail springs. I'd suggest the 25 trion for panfish... and either the president or supreme for bass. Size 30 for finesse, 35 if you need bigger line or more capacity. 2 Quote
