loudcherokee Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 This is a dumb post on my part, but I can't remember what line I have spooled on my Lews BB1. It's either Berkley smooth cast XL or Seguar red label. This is my crankbait rod and reel. I spooled up the reel a year or two ago, and I love the way this line fishes. It's sensitive and casts like a dream. Out of hundreds of casts I've only had maybe 2 back lashes on this reel with this line. I want to refresh my line, but don't know what I used. Is there any way I can try to tell the two apart? LC Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 31, 2016 Super User Posted March 31, 2016 Put a little piece in a glass of water. Red Label should slowly sink, and the XL should suspend or slowly rise. Quote
loudcherokee Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 There is a third possibility, which is Yo Zuri Hybrid, but I don't think I would have spooled up with it. I only use it for leader, but it just can't remember. LC 1 Quote
tstraub Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 The quickest way I know to tell any mono any from floro is with a lighter. Mono is nylon and will keep burning after you remove the flame. Floro will smoke, melt and smell terrible but the flame will go out as soon as you remove the lighter. Tyler 1 Quote
loudcherokee Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 Cool thanks guys. I'll try both methods and see what results I get. I just simply can't remember. I took a break from fishing for about 2 years and just don't know what I put on. I thought I posted on here about it when I got my new reels and rods but couldn't find the post. LC Quote
loudcherokee Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 Looks like it's Trilene XL. I tried a piece from the rod and a piece of Trilene and Seguar from the spools. The piece from the rod sinks very slowly to the bottom, and so does the trilene. The Seguar sinks very quickly straight to the bottom of the glass. LC Quote
