Tracker22 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I'm fishing out of a Jackson Big Rig and thinking about purchasing a flipping rod. My question; are you able to horse a large bass out of fall downs or do you wind up pulling your yak into the trees? i.e. Is it practical to flip from a kayak? Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 30, 2016 Super User Posted March 30, 2016 if you can stand in it, you can flip in it. i do from my ride 135 quite a bit. big rig should be no problem. i've had bass tow me around on a spinnerbait just as much as a jig, that's part of the fun for me! 2 Quote
avidone1 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I caught a 7.5 lb bass on a spinnerbait fishing from a 14 foot jon boat. that sucker towed me a good 20 feet. And then there was the time I caught a 22 lb carp on 1/16 th oz. crappie jig. No lie. I was fishing for crappie using the ultra light outfit under a bobber. the carp just inhaled the jig and towed me and the jon boat nearly back to the dock before I could land him on 4 lb test line. It was one of more memorable days on the water. Quote
Dye99 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I flip in heavy cover all the time for large bass. Sure sometimes you get your nose yanked in, but that doesnt mean you lose the fish! Never once have I fallen out of a boat either. Outside of harpooning whales 12 miles out to sea, Ive yet to find a bass fishing style that I can't achieve on a kayak. 2 Quote
