R H Clark Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I'm an old mono user and have only tried a couple of the newer braid lines. I just bought a new Stradic Ci4+ 2500 and would like to try a new line. I've used Nanofil and like it's light weight for casting 1/32 oz jigs but it's lack of abrasion resistance makes it nearly useless for me. Both Fireline and P-line CX premium have been recommended to me but I would like to hear opinions of these and any others. This reel will do double duty on 2 rods. I will likely use 6lb or possibly 8-10 lb if it's small diameter for both. On my ultralight rod, I will be casting 1/32- 1/16 jigs for crappie and on the medium rod I will be casting heavier jigs up to 1/4 oz. there are just so many new lines on the market I'm about at a loss as to what to choose. Any help is appreciated. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 Braid isn't the line for you if you need abrasion resistance unless you use a leader. I like Sufix Elite, Trilene XL or Sunline Super Natural. All are relatively soft lines that don't "spring" as bad as harder, more abrasive resistant lines such as Big Game. If Big Game handles ok for you than it would be more abrasive resistant than the 3 lines I mentioned. However, it coils a bit more than Sufix Siege on my baitcasting reels. Both coil like a slinky after sitting awhile, but the Big Game will give me loose coils on the spool after a cast...unless very careful...until it gets wet whereas the Siege doesn't. I consider Big Game and Siege better suited to a baitcast reel. Quote
R H Clark Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 How does Suffix Elite compare to Trilene XL? I use XL and like it. I guess I'm looking to try something different but not if it isn't better. I would like something with the casting qualities of XL but a little more sensitive to detect light strikes. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 maybe try out a good copolymer like yo zuri hybrid. I've never used the ultra soft that is marketed for spinning reels, but have heard great things about it. I've used 6# yozuri on my ultralight reel with success. it's very strong for it's # rating too. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 There's a lot of lines I like for spinning - 20# braid (several brands, 4 & 8 carrier), Suffix Elite in 6 or 8#, YZ Hybrid Soft 6/8#, Tatsu in 6, InvisX in 6, are a few in different materials that I like. Quote
James Pondscum Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 On spinning McCoy copolymer my only choice. 3 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 10lb plain old Power Pro braid on my drop shot rod, and 15lb Power Pro on my shaky head/wacky jig rod. Both get used with various sized fluorocarbon leaders ranging from 6 to 12lb test. 2 Quote

Super User bigbill Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Posted March 29, 2016 Excalibur Silver Thread Copolymer line. Been using it for decades. Quote
tander Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I am completely satisfied with 7# test Sunline Sniper FC on my spinning reel. Cast great and seems stronger than 7# test. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Nothing beats tatsu floro. If you need something cheaper, McCoy copolymer has awesome abrasion resistance. Quote
Florida Cracker2 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Does anyone use spiderwire anymore? I find it to be supple, thin, and very castable. Better than xl which was my mainstay for years. I first started using it about 25 years ago when it first came out. I love it. Braid, although great for weeds and trees, is awful for getting hung on hard bottom. Quote
Kevin22 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I use 4# high viz gold stren for panfish. When I hit a clear body of water I drop down to either 2# trilene sensation or my favorite, 4# seaguar red label. I would NOT suggest 6-8# line for any kind of panfishing other than bobber fishing. I tried the braid and nanofil for panfish, didn't like it. Back to mono and fluoro. I tried yo-zuri, didn't especially care for it. The ultra soft went bad on me very quickly, and the regular is very thick. For bass I like 10-15# braid. Either power pro, power pro slick 8, or sufix 832. All work well. I don't really care for tying leaders, so when I'm in clear water I go ahead and use 8# seaguar red label fluoro. I don't use mono on spinning rods for bass anymore. I tried fireline, still use some of it, but I really don't care for it. The PP and 832 are much better. The spiderwire I tried was pure junk, I wouldn't give that to my worst enemy. Quote
offsidewing Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 TW had a sale on Seaguar Tatsu over the winter and I picked up a couple spools. Been using 6lb Tatsu this spring and it is spectacular. Before that I was using 6lb Yo Zuri Hybrid and Pline Fluoroclear. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 30, 2016 Super User Posted March 30, 2016 10# regular yellow PP 15# PP Superslick 8 Leader on every setup from 4-15# Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 30, 2016 Super User Posted March 30, 2016 10 to 15 pound test high quality braid. Very easy handling, few problems if any, long casts, high sensitivity. so thin leaders are not required exc maybe in crystal clear. Quote
Molay1292 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Typically I use 10 PPS8 and a FC leader 6-8lb. Recently I have been trying Gliss in the 18 and 24lb test. I have to say that not having to tie a leader is nice and so far the line has really impressed me. Quote
R H Clark Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 For those using McCoy Copolymer, is there a difference between the clear blue florescent and the Xtra clear? I'm sort of between the McCoy , Yo-Zuri Hybrid, and P-Line Cx Premium, all in 6 lb test. I may buy a spool of each. Quote

Caught a nice oscar and a couple bluegill on it so far and had one nice size bass break off in some tree limbs which was expected with that light of a line. The other 2 reels that have 8# spiderwire are from some I purchased in the 90s (years ago) and still casts well with no problems. I have never had line hold up that long without getting stiff. I will see how this new spool holds up. Quote
